Congress “CERAMIC VALUES: Can Ceramics make a difference?”

We are pleased to extend the CfP deadline for the congress "CERAMIC VALUES" until 30 March 2017. This is due to an increased interest and several enquiries at the time close to the first deadline. We received a large number of high quality proposals until now and we are looking forward for more!

*****

The Congress “CERAMIC VALUES: Can Ceramics make a difference?” aims to open the debate about the value and roles of ceramics in society. It will examine the relationship between historic centres of manufacture and contemporary centres of learning, production and consumption. The Congress, led by Ulster University, will cite models of research development and innovation that both challenge and sustain the debate about the role of Ceramics within the broader societal dimensions across Europe and internationally. The Congress will present the full range of in depth findings of the 10 module teams within Ceramics and its Dimensions since 2015. Representatives from all 19 of the Ceramics and its Dimensions partners will be present and contribute to Congress proceedings. Congress delegates, ceramic sector professionals, students, and the general public will be invited to attend. The Congress will take place on the occasion of the 5th British Ceramics Biennial in Stoke-on-Trent.

Speakers already confirmed include Neil Brownsword (UK) who is currently examining skill transference between tradition and the contemporary practice in Korea, Keith Harrison (UK) interactive/performative ceramics in the public realm, Jay Thakkar (India) (tbc), Assistant Professor at Faculty of Design, and Head of Research at Design Innovation and Craft Resource Centre at CEPT University, Ahmedabad who is exploring clay as a medium of international exchange.
