The study course Media Technology
Media Technology is an engineering science dealing with devices, signals, methods and workflow in the area of electronic media. It comprises technologies in the area of audio, photography, video, animation, print and Internet. Thereby, the entire processing chain - from production (recording or electronic generation) over signal processing, transmission to storage and replay – will be looked at.
Field of work
The interdisciplinary nature of media technology is reflected in a number of working areas in media and industry. Media technology is strongly connected to terms such as informatics, communications, art as well as classical media producers such as film, TV, broadcast and print. Furthermore, the main focus is audio and video engineering, virtual reality, Internet, multimedia, light engineering, interactive TV, computer animation, picture processing and usability.
Possibilities to study abroad:
International exchange programs aimed at companies as well as universities, especially during the practical semester, help to raise the flexibility of our students. Strong contacts, especially to media producers, are an important part of the study course.
Since 1996, the study course media technology has been offered at the Ilmenau University of Technology. In the last years, approximately 140 media technology students have graduated successfully every year. According to surveys conducted by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, most students found an occupation according to his or her qualification and interests in companies in Germany or abroad.
