Computational Communication Science: New Professorship at IfMK

[Translate to Englisch:] Prof. Dr. Emese Domahidi

Institutsdirektor Prof. Löffelholz und Dekan Prof. Wolling begrüßen Prof. Domahidi am IfMK

The Institute for Media and Communication Science (IfMK) at the TU Ilmenau is expanding: From October 2017, Professor Dr. Emese Domahidi chairs the new, innovative research group on "Computational Communication Science".

At IfMK, Prof. Domahidi will analyze digital media content and communication processes, as well as the associated social changes. Her research interests include the search for information in digital media, the (cognitive) distortions in the reception of digital media content and the social consequences of digital media usage. In addition to classical methods of communication science, Prof. Domahidi deals with the application, further development and evaluation of methods of computer science for communication-scientific questions.

Emese Domahidi studied journalism and communication science, German literature and philosophy at Freie Universität Berlin. From 2010 to 2012, she worked as a research assistant in the ERC project "The social fabric of virtual life: A longitudinal multi-method study on the social foundations of online gaming (SOFOGA)" at the University of Hohenheim. From 2012 to 2015, she was a research associate in the ERC project SOFOGA with Prof. Dr. Thorsten Quandt at the University of Münster. In 2015, she received a doctorate degree for a thesis on the use of online media and perceived social resources. From 2015 to September 2017, she was a postdoctoral fellow in the Social Media Research Group at Prof. Dr. Sonja Utz at the Leibniz Institute for Knowledge Media in Tübingen.
