System and Software Engineering

System Requirements

TimeNET is currently supported on two runtime environments:

  • Linux on personal computers
recommended distribution: SuSE Linux 7.2 professional
    (SuSE USA, SuSE Germany)

The package works with newer versions of Linux, except for problems related to gcc versions with different input format. A partially updated version for newer gcc versions is available now. It has been compiled with Debian 3, glibc-2.3.5.

Hints for your SuSE Linux installation: you should install the packages xfig and gnuplot if you want to use the corresponding features of TimeNET. The TimeNET graphical user interface is statically linked and should not need special libraries. If you encounter problems with libraries, email us. In addition you can try the following (which is how our system is set up for compiling TimeNET): deinstall the package lesstiff and install OpenMotif (package motif and motifdev in serie pay).

Hint for developers: To compile TimeNET on your computer (which is not necessary for users who download the precompiled version), you should install package lx-suse and not packages kernel / kernel include files.

  • SunOS 5.7-5.9 (Solaris) on Sun workstations

Additional Packages Needed for SuSE Linux 7.x

The following packages must be installed in addition to the SuSE standard installation:

  • flex
  • xfig
  • bison
  • gnuplot
