The System and Software Engineering group is working on methods, applications, and software tools for an efficient design of complex technical systems. As they often include mechanical and electronic parts as well as an increasingly important share of software, an interdisciplinary and integral approach for their design is necessary. Software engineering is especially important from the computer scientist's view, but it can only be successful in combination with the surrounding system's engineering process. Education, methods, and software tools aiming at effective engineering solutions have to take into account this connection.
Research and teaching of the System and Software Engineering group are centered around model-based engineering of embedded systems. Application areas that we are working on include automotive, avionic, and automation systems.
The group is currently being restructured since Armin Zimmermann has been appointed its new head in July 2008. It is the successor of the former System and Control Theory group.
