If you arrive by train, all hotels are most conveniently reachable via train station Ilmenau/Bad (within walking distance).

Ilmenau is located at the foot of Thüringer Wald, 40 kilometers south of Thüringen´s capital city Erfurt. To reach Ilmenau (see map below):

• by car use the A71 motorway via Erfurt from the north or via Schweinfurt from the south, or come by the B4, B87 or B88 trunk roads. The B4 links Ilmenau with Erfurt and Jena, the B87 with Apolda, and the B88 with Eisenach and Jena.
• by train use the direct rail link from Erfurt.
• by airplane: only from a few airports there are offered connecting flights to the next domestic airport Erfurt-Bindersleben. The next international airports with good railway connections are Leipzig, Frankfurt and Berlin.

It is easy to find a conveniant train connection by yourself (and to buy a corresponding "online ticket" with your credit card). Just go to http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en, specify the start and destination and choose the date and time of arrival or departure.

When giving the start and destination, please use "Frankfurt airport" and "Ilmenau", then you may see the message

Please use the buttom and select "FRA Frankfurt Airport" and "Ilmenau Bahnhof".

In Ilmenau our location is not on the main campus but in the historical Curiebau close to the town centre (building 17, see map below).
