How to Apply
Successful applicants to the doctoral program typically hold a Master or University Diploma degree in one of the following or similar fields:
- Optical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Material sciences
- Microtechnology
- Mechatronics
We expect proficiency in the English language including conversational, reading as well as academic writing skills. German is not strictly needed for the School. However, basic German helps you to get around. Experience in the fields of optics or micro technology as well as in academic and scientific working is an advantage.
Your Application
Your successful application to the School should include the following:
- your CV
- the certificates of all relevant college and university degrees in English or German
- the transcripts including all courses for your degrees in English or German
- a short motivation statement for your application, including the preferred topic of your doctoral studies (see our research topics here)
- an indication if you have been granted a scholarship or similar to cover your cost, i.e. by any external source, e.g. DAAD, national institution, or if you have applied for this
- references to three of your academic advisors, including institution, postal address, phone, FAX, and email addresses
- a certificate of your English language skills, e.g. TOEFL
