We would like to present you detailed information for studying at Ilmenau University of Technology.
Our university offers the opportunity of enrolling for BA studies, of studying special courses for a certain period of time, but all in all we would be very delighted to welcome you among our students.
Before you continue reading, we would like to draw your attention to some important facts.
The official language and the language of instruction in seminars and lectures at the university is German. Therefore, we require proven knowledge of your German skills before enrolment. If necessary, you might be invited to take part in a Academic Preparatory Course APC.

For the Master’s degree courses, which might partly be taught in English or which are organised with English as language of instruction, only basic knowledge in German is demanded but extended English language skills should be shown. We will accept TOEFL 550 or IELTS 6.5, respectively, as a proof of sufficient mastering of English language. If you could not reach one of these language certificates before your arrival at TU Ilmenau our university offers even English language courses during APC.

You should apply for your studies right in time. The visa formalities, which have to be considered by almost all applicants, might require about three months. Therefore, we suggest applying by 31 March (for the winter semester) and 30 September (for the summer semester) if you do not live in Germany not yet. Nevertheless, applications will be accepted before 15 July for the programs with limited number of students ( numerus clausus) and until 30 September for all programs with unlimited access. Actually, “Angewandte Medienwissenschaft” and “Medienwirtschaft” are the only programs limited.

Ilmenau University of Technology is introducing the online application. If you have access to the internet, you should refer to the opportunity of online application as it would speed up the processing of your application. Needless to say, that we still accept the traditional application on paper using the form offered by German Academic Exchange Service (international office) for all universities.
