Professional Background

Le Ngoc Son is pursuing a doctoral degree in crisis communication at the Institute of Media and Communication Science of Ilmenau University of Technology (TU Ilmenau) under the supervision of Prof.Dr. Martin Löffelholz and Dr. Andreas Schwarz. His doctoral research project is related to crisis communication governance in ASEAN countries. He aims to investigate the influence of social, cultural, and political factors on structural and practical crisis communication management in the region; and develops a strategic framework of policy response at the national and regional level in terms of crisis communication governance.

He was awarded a Master’s degree in Public Management from the Government Department of Uppsala University (Sweden), and Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the Faculty of Journalism and Media of University of Social Science and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi).

Before winning a full Ph.D. scholarship and doing the research, Mr. Son had spent almost twelve years working in political journalism in Vietnam as a senior journalist and newsroom manager. He was the deputy editor in chief of one of the most prestigious newspapers in the country, and the founder and chairman of the first non-profit private media school in Vietnam named Intelligent Applied Media School – IAMS. He was a deputy director of Institution of Information Technology and Media, Hoa Binh University. He was a lecturer teaching journalism, media theory, political communication, public policy, and crisis management in several universities in the country. He is also an active commentator on the media regarding a number of national concerns, and the author of many books and scientific articles about political issues, journalism and communication in Vietnam. From 2006 till now, Mr. Son has been working as a senior communication advisor for H.E. Doan Duy Thanh, former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Trade of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. The Vietnamese government has officially nominated him as one of the representative excellence young delegates of the nation to participate several regional and international exchange forums and people-to-people high level dialogues. Currently, he is also an advisor for some high profile officials and politicians, state corporations and governmental organizations in the country, as well as a media reform advisor for some German newspapers that are published in Vietnamese language in Germany.

Mr. Son owns several Awards and Honors in various fields with his wide range of works.

He has been lecturing in journalism, media theory, political communication, public policy, and crisis management in several universities in Vietnam.
