Library in general
The Universitätsbibliothek Ilmenau is the largest technical library in Thuringia. Its primary aim is to supply university staff and students with literature and information necessary for studies, research and teaching. Furthermore it is open to the general public, companies and research facilities for academic or job-related purposes as well as for personnel research and further education.

The university library offers to you:
Internet access and databases
At the PC workstations access to the Internet and to several databases for academic research are offered for free. You can use the databases from every PC of the university network.
More and more publishers offer their journals with full text articles in the Internet. In cooperation with other libraries the Universitätsbibliothek Ilmenau tries to provide access to as many of these electronic journals as possible, or at least to the bibliographical references of the articles so that you can use the Inter-Library Loan or a document delivery service (see INFO 9).
Inter-Library Loan
Literature which is not in stock of the library can be ordered by Inter-Library Loan via the catalogue of the GBV Common Library Network “GVK-Plus” on the Internet. Please note that you cannot order the following: theses, standards, patent specifications, manuscripts, reference works, encyclopedias, dictionaries, loose-leaf-collections, current journals or complete volumes of journals.

ilmedia
ilmedia consists of three services offered by the library: “Hochschulbibliograhie” (bibliography of works published by members of the university), “Electronic publications” and “Publishing books”. The services can be used by every member of the university.

The media library holds the non-book-material of the library like CDs, CD-ROMs, cassettes, floppy-disks, videos or microforms. You can order the non-book-material in the catalogue like any book.
