Excursion 1

Excursion to the central operations control centre Thuringia | Rennsteigtunnel tunnel control centre

Due to the geographical, climatic and traffic situation, the crest crossing of the Thuringian Forest with its 4 tunnels and 7 bridges at an altitude of 500 - 660 m is one of the main tasks of the ZBL.

For this reason, the location chosen was on the A 71 between the Rennsteig Tunnel and the Hochwald Tunnel.

The Zella-Mehlis motorway maintenance department is also located at the same site and works in close cooperation with it.

At 7,916 metres, the Rennsteigtunnel, officially called the Rennsteig Tunnel, is the longest road tunnel in Germany. As part of the A 71-Erfurt-Schweinfurt motorway, between the Gräfenroda and Oberhof junctions, it crosses the ridge of the Thuringian Forest with the Rennsteig ridge path.

The tasks of the central operations control centre thus include all activities for monitoring, controlling, securing and regulating traffic and the technical operating equipment in the road tunnels on Thuringia's motorways.

A distinction is made between normal, malfunction and emergency situations.

The combination of traffic engineering and 11 road tunnels through the ZBL in Zella-Mehlis. Note:

The first group begins with a walk through the Rennsteig tunnel, while the second group learns everything worth knowing about traffic monitoring in the control centre. Afterwards the group change takes place.

Important Notice: Maximum number of participants 40, per group max. 20 persons.
