1st GAMM Juniors' Summer School (September 14 - 20, 2014)
Topics
The topic of the GAMM Juniors' School on Applied Mathematics and Mechanics (SAMM) are Differential-Algebraic Equations (DAEs). These equations are a powerful tool for modelling and analysis of various problems, e.g. in multibody dynamics, economics, and electrical circuits. The investigation of DAEs has become an important field of research in mathematics and mechanics.
The topic is presented by two experts in the field and two invited guest speakers. In addition to the lectures there will be example classes.
Who can attend?
The school is open to international PhD and advanced undergraduate students from engineering sciences or mathematics.
Scholarships
A limited number of scholarships will be available. These scholarships will in general cover the lodging (full board) and travel expenses up to 150 EUR. Because of the restricted number of such scholarships, we ask students to preferentially use funds available at their home institutions.

Elgersburg can be reached via local trains from Erfurt, which is connected to the German high speed train network.
Trains from Erfurt to Elgersburg (destination Ilmenau)
run every hour (with slightly varying departure times between 9 p.m. and 8 a.m.):

There will be a bus shuttle from the bus station in Elgersburg to the Hotel from 5:30 pm until 10:30 pm; if you will arrive at any other time, then please give the hotel a call +49 (0) 3 677 79 800 and they will pick you up.
The nearest airport is Leipzig, which has few international connections.
From the major airports in Frankfurt and Berlin, Erfurt can be reached by train in 2-3 hours.
Frankfurt has the advantage, that there are direct trains between the airport and Erfurt.

The cost for the hotel including full board is
EUR 500 for a single and EUR 390 p.p. for a double room.
In addition, an e-mail of your supervisor is required including
- Recommendation of the candidate for the summer school.
- Declaration whether the candidate needs financial support.
- A statement whether the candidate would be able to come if no financial support can be provided.

Confirmation notice
The number of participants is strictly limited to 40 due to the size of the workshop hotel. If more than 40 registrations are received, the organizers will rank registrations according to excellence and suitability and invite the first 40 of this list. Confirmation notices will be sent out before August 1st.
