Competition Policy in the Digital Age

FG Wirtschaftstheorie

What are adequate rules and policies governing competition in the digital age, both taming the powerful „tech giants“ (à la Alphabet-Google, Amazon, Facebook, Apple, etc.) and respecting the economic characteristics and benefits of digital goods and markets? In their new publication „Competition Policy Reform in Europe and Germany - Institutional Change in the Light of Digitization“, published in the leading peer-reviewed academic journal European Competition Journal (Vol. 15 (1), pp. 15-54), Oliver Budzinski and Annika Stöhr (Chair for Economic Theory, Institute of Economics and Institute of Media and Mobile Communication) address this highly relevant question. They analyze from an economics perspective recent reform proposals for the European and the German competition policy and give recommendations for further reforms.
