Procedural rules for dealing with examinations at the Department Economic Sciences and Media Status: 20.03.2020, 5:30 p.m.

"Examinations are generally cancelled until 04 May 2020. These cancellations will be assessed as a reason for which the students are not responsible for the progress of their studies. In exceptional cases, the examination may be held by agreement between the examiner and the person being examined; in this case, special attention shall be paid to the general rules for infection protection."
(resolution of the Rectorate of TU Ilmenau dated 16.03.2020; regularly updated version: https://www.tu-ilmenau.de/aktuelles/news/newsbeitrag/25346/)

On the basis of this decision, it is established

  1. All written exams are cancelled until 04.05.2020. Registered students will be cancelled by the Examination Office with the reason medical certificate ("Attest"); no independent cancellation by the students is required.
  2. The university as a whole and not the department or the individual examiner will decide on a replacement examination period for the exams cancelled between 16.03.2020 and 04.05.2020. Unfortunately, at the moment and as long as the further course of the pandemic measures cannot be estimated, no further details can be given.
  3. All oral exams including defenses of theses are cancelled until 04.05.2020.
  4. In exceptional cases, a candidate may request that the exam still takes place, if necessary including a change in the form of the exam (e.g. oral exam instead of written exam) due to special circumstances like undue hardship. A reasoned request must be submitted to the Examination Board (Prüfungsausschuss). The Examination Board shall obtain the examiner's agreement before making its decision. This agreement must also be reached if the oral exam shall be conducted via video conference systems, i.e. if examiners or students do not agree to this form of examination, the examination will not take place.
  5. Defending final papers as well as any exam-relevant (interim or final) presentations in the context of media projects or seminars may be carried out in exceptional cases by agreement between the examiner and the student(s). This agreement must also be reached if the oral exam shall be conducted via video conference systems, i.e. if examiners or students do not agree to this form of examination, the examination will not take place.
  6. NEW! Ongoing theses and media projects whose submission date is after 20.3. will automatically be extended by a flat rate of eight weeks. Possible other reasons for extension due to a pandemic should be briefly explained in a request to the examination board.
  7. In the case of other ongoing examination services such as homework in seminars, the respective examiner decides on a possible extension of the deadline. The examiners shall inform the students.
  8. New theses and media projects may also begin at any time before 04.05.2020 if the supervisor and the student agree on this.
