Listed below you find the most important basic information for the Bachelor's program "Applied Media and Communication Studies" as a first overview:

  • Graduation:
    The studies complete with the degree “Bachelor of Arts (B.A)” and the study title “Applied Media and Communication Studies”.
  • Application deadline:
    July 15 (12:00 p.m.)
  • Begin of studies:
    Every winter semester
  • Admission requirements:
    Higher education entrance qualification. The admission to one of the approximately 150 university places in our Bachelor's programmeer is regulated via an internal numerus clausus.
  • Standard period of study:
    The standard period of study is 7 semesters.
  • Application:
    The application for the "Applied Media and Communication Studies" program has to be made online. Important tips on how to do so are given on the respective pages of the Ilmenau University of Technology. (currently only available in German)

Goal of the interdisciplinary curriculum is to impart profound theoretical, methodological and applied knowledge. Beside scientific qualifications you also achieve instrumental skills, for example in dealing with new media technologies. By this means you are extensively prepared for different kinds of professions in the fields of media and communication.

You acquire:

  • theoretical and empirical knowledge concerning structure, function and development of  media systems
  • methodological knowledge regarding the conception, design, and analysis of communication processes and the media itself
  • practical, strategical and evaluative skills for an occupational activities in the media sector (e.g. in public relations, journalism and media management)
  • application-oriented skills for the media- , market- and target-group-conform conception, design and evaluation of different kinds of media products. Especially in the radio, multimedia, online and mobile media sector.
  • so called “soft skills” like the ability to work in a team, leadership skills and flexibility that match the international requirements for people who would like to work in the media sector.

  2. interface and transfer competence. You do not think "only" socio-scientific, but also  economical and technical.
  3. gained experience in practical oriented research projects and practically oriented courses. You are able to recognize and analyze current problems concerning media communication and to develop practice-oriented solutions.
  4. gained important key competencies for your further career progression.
