Master Program Micro- and Nanotechnologies

The degree program Micro- and Nanotechnologies allows a deeper understanding of scientific background as well as technological processes in the field of micro- and nanostructure generation and application. A key focus of the program is devoted to nano-structuring techniques. Due to the close cooperation with the Institute of Micro- and Nanotechnologies (IMN) MacroNano® students will have the opportunity to participate in research projects and gain experience in clean rooms. Furthermore, the university pays special attention to soft skills as well as project management skills.

Course Structure

The course is devided into 4 semesters.

The first is an introduction into fundamental processes and techniques used in the micro- and nanotechnologies. Furthermore, students are familiarised with project work. Additionally they are required to choose a non-technical subject. A German language course is recommend for students with limited proficiency in German.

In the second and third semester students may choose from a variety of subjects according to their interests. Moreover, they will complete a practical project in the third semester.

The final semester is reserved for the completion of the master's thesis.

For admission to the Master of Science in Micro- and Nanotechnologies the successful completion of a Bachelor or comparable course of at least 6 semesters (or 180 credit points) is required. Suitable fields of study are:

  • Electrical Engineering
  • Information Technology
  • Material Science and Engineering

In addition, the applicants need solid knowledge in the following subjects:

  • Electrical engineering
  • Electronics
  • Mechanical engineering
  • Material science and Engineering
  • Physics, chemistry and higher mathematic
