Internship in the ERASMUS+ program

Support of your internship with ERASMUS+:

We are happy to help you with your plans to complete an internship during your university education with the support of the ERASMUS+ program. In addition to the general support - including checking the application documents and preparing the contract documents for the financial support of your ERASMUS internship - we can also arrange internship positions in some cases. The funding will be transferred to you after signing the contract documents. Please note that all contractual arrangements must be made before the beginning of the internship.

Application documents and application deadlines:

  • What: Application documents (application form, curriculum vitae, academic achievements, letter of recommendation from your faculty/department)
  • When: 4 months before the desired start of the internship
  • Where: International Office of your university (students of the TU Ilmenau directly with Ms. Seltner)

Support of compulsory and additional internships:

Both compulsory internships and optional internships during your studies can be supported. This applies to every phase of higher education.

Length of internship:

  • full-time internships are supported
  • minimum duration: 2 months
  • maximum duration: 12 months

This information applies to the Bachelor, Master, and PhD students.

Students of single degree programs (e.g. medicine) can be sponsored for a total of 24 months (periods after the first 12 months are considered additional mobility).

The maximum funding period refers to the study cycle, not to the subject.

Type of internship:

  • eligible internships: in companies, social institutions, NGOs, universities, etc.
  • not eligible interships: placements in institutions and bodies of the European Union; institutions and organizations managing Community programmes; national diplomatic missions of the student's country of origin in the host country.

Countries of destination:

EU: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, (United Kingdom*)

Iceland, Liechtenstein, Northern Macedonia, Norway, Serbia, Turkey

as well as the overseas territories according to the ERASMUS+ Overseas territories guide.

Entitlement to the grant:

Each application for a grant will be considered on a case-by-case basis. There is no legal entitlement to the funding.


Before the beginning of the internship, you will ensure that you have sufficient insurance coverage (health, accident and liability) for the entire period of your internship abroad, including the time for travel to and from the university. You can easily organize the insurance online via the DAAD, rate 720.
