INHALTE

INFO 13 - Submission of the doctoral thesis

General Information

Dissertation publication is an important part of completing doctoral studies (see the Doctoral Regulations of the TU Ilmenau). This includes submitting the dissertation to Ilmenau University Library (UB). There are several possibilities for publication, which are detailed below.

We at the UB recommend electronic publication, as this usually receives more attention than a few dozen printed copies. Please contact us before preparing the final version of your dissertation, this saves you and us unnecessary work.

Publication Procedure

To ensure that the publication is processed quickly, please note the following:

  • The first step is always to register the dissertation using our online form.
  • Registration can only be done online! The attachments required for application (abstract in English and German) must be formatted as plain TXT files. Each abstract should not exceed 2,400 characters.

When registering your dissertation, you must decide the form you wish to publish in:

The University Library recommends that you publish electronically, as these are perceived better on the internet generally.

Electronic Publication

By submitting your paper in electronic form, you benefit from the advantages of electronic publishing. These include faster dissemination, easier access, inclusion in online search engines and citation capability through permanent URNs (Uniform Resource Names).

After registering your dissertation using the registration form, the University Library will give you a URN for your electronic dissertation, which allows it to be identified in a persistent manner, regardless of its location. Before you compile your final presentation format text (PDF/A or PS) and before printing, please add this URN to the title page in the bottom left-hand corner.

This step is important to ensure consistency between the electronic and printed forms of your dissertation.

You must submit:

Your dissertation will be published in the "Digitale Bibliothek Thüringen (DBT)" by the University Library. The permalink will then be sent to you by email.

Printed Publication

You must submit either:

  • six copies, if a commercial publisher assumes responsibility for retail distribution and guarantees a minimum circulation of 150 copies, or the ability to publish for at least two years,

    or

  • ten copies in book or photo printed form. The copies submitted must be printed on acid-free paper and have a hard-cover binding (not ring-bound).
