MEG/EEG Real-Time Source Localization

Project description

 

Providing millisecond-temporal resolution for non-invasive mapping of human brain functions, Magnetoencephalography (MEG) and Electroencephalography (EEG) are optimal to monitor brain activity in real-time. Real-time feedback allows the adaption of the experiment to the subject’s reaction creating a whole set of new options: it could accelerate the rehabilitation of stroke patients, improve the adaption of neuroimplants, accelerate diagnostic procedures, and it could increase the classification rate of brain computer interfaces (BCIs).

Together with scientists of the Athinoula A. Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging (Massachusetts General Hospital, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard Medical School, United States) scientists of the Technische Universität Ilmenau focus on the research and development of real-time brain monitoring solutions. Source localization algorithms are parallelized and optimized utilizing the graphics processing units (GPUs) and NVIDIAs Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA). The developed software framework and the algorithm library are open source and publicly available (MNE-CPP).
