Conceptual Design and Partial Implementation of a Telemedicine Platform in Thuringia on the Example of Teleconsultation during General Practitioners' Dementia Treatment

Project description

The aim of the project is the development and piloting of a platform for telemedicine services in Thuringia, which improves the patient-care in rural areas. Based on this platform concept, a first exemplary application, namely the specialist consultation directly in a general pracitioners' office, shall provide great parts of medical diagnostics and treatment close to home of dementia patients, without enabling and maintaining an infrastructure of specialists' practices. Teleconsultation allows doctors, in further stages of expansaion also hospitals, nursing services or family members, to communicate with each other and with dementia specialists, to discuss and decide for treatment steps and methods, and to exchange experiences. Through an evaluation study carried out by Universitätsklinikum Jena the successful application of the telemedicine platform shall be substantiated. The overall achievement shall be a concept and a test of a sustainable implementation of telemedicine services in Thuringia, bearing a positive influence on the future of health care.
