Special Issue “Sexuality in the Digital Age” of the “Zeitschrift für Sexualforschung” published

Sexuality-related media and technology is one of the main teaching and research interests of the Media Psychology and Media Design Group. The impact of digital media on human sexuality is covered by the special issue “Sexualität im Digitalzeitalter [Sexuality in the Digital Age]” of the “Zeitschrift für Sexualforschung” (Thieme Verlag), edited by Prof. Döring.

Prof. Döring outlines the status quo of sexuality in the digital age in the editorial of the issue ( This is followed by three original articles, addressing: 1. the current state of research on online dating (Aretz, Gansen-Ammann, Mierke, & Musiol, 2017), 2. sexuality-related robot use (Döring, 2017), and 3. the structure of the online pornography market (Joos, 2017). The article on robot sex written by Prof. Döring ( discusses both positive and negative consequences as well as the need for future research.
