Internship in your own venture- a first-hand report

Since a couple of years, it is possible for students at the IfMK to do an internship in their own, not yet founded venture. Anabel and Bettina Elsner von Arnim, two AMW-students, write about their experiences with this special kind of internship. The business idea has to be kept secret until the venture will be founded.

“The internship in our own, not yet founded venture was a wonderful and unforgettable experience for us. We would do it again anytime! The goal of our internship was to specify our business idea, to build an entrepreneurial network, to gather experience at founding events and to build a suitable business concept. Furthermore, we were concerned with Marketing and the structure of our website. It was exciting to convert an idea into reality that was only in our minds before and to socialize with others at founding events.

We advise every founder to participate in the start-up week in Nuremberg. During five intensive days, we looked at our business idea from every angle possible with the help of different canvas models and could get advice from mentors of all areas. For everyone who is looking for inspiration and new input, we recommend the eight-hour event of the entrepreneur university in Frankfurt. High-quality speakers like Matthew Mockridge, Alexander Hartmann or Manuel Gonzales talk about what really is important when founding a new venture and have a huge impact on personality development.

In Ilmenau, Prof. Andreas Will and Britta Gossel from the Media and Communication Management Group supported us. In addition, auftakt. Das Gründerforum Ilmenau guided us with a team of mentors during our internship and was always at our side with help and advice.

A special highlight was the Pitch on December 8, 2016, in Schmalkalden, where we were awarded with the third prize for our business idea. With motivation and drive, we continue to pursue our business idea and cannot wait to introduce our start-up.” (Anabel & Bettina Elsner von Arnim)
