GOR Thesis Award Competition

Bachelor Thesis at the department of media psychology and media design selected for GOR Thesis Award Competition

Lara Rieger presented her bachelor thesis Darstellung der Menstruation auf YouTube [Display of Menstruation on YouTube], which was supervised by the department of media psychology and media design, within the GOR Thesis Award Competition. Female menstrual bleeding has been taboo for a long time. Its representation in the mass media is mostly negative to this day and thus impairs the body image of the media users. What does this look like on YouTube, where girls and young women take up the subject offensively and distribute "period hacks"?

The GOR Thesis Award Competition took place on 01.03.18 at the GOR in Cologne. The GOR (General Online Research) is Germany's most influential conference for online research. For the competition, a jury selected three outstanding Bachelor/Master/Diploma theses from the field of online research. The best of the three theses was awarded a prize. Lara Rieger did not receive the prize for her nominated thesis, but she received an honorable mention.
