A Research Year at the Group for Research in Public Relations and Communication of Technology

Visiting researcher Dr. Cristina Polo Alonso from Spain will conduct research on NGOs and crisis communication

Since the end of September, Cristina Polo Alonso is working as a visiting researcher in the group for research in Public Relations and Communication of Technology. Her research focuses on the strategic communication of international non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and crisis communication. Dr. Polo Alonso will co-lecture the spezialization module "NGOs and Crisis Communication" of the Master's programme MCS. For the academic year 2018/19, she will also be a member of the International Research Group on Crisis Communication.

Cristina Polo Alonso graduated from the Complutense University of Madrid with a Master's degree in Organizational Communication (specializing in NGOs), where she also obtained her Ph.D. in Communication Science. She gained teaching experience in Spain and Nicaragua and was a post-doctoral research fellow at KU Leuven in Belgium. Dr. Polo Alonso has conducted research on media effects and gender, crisis communication and humanitarian NGOs in the European refugee crisis. For UNICEF, for example, she also carried out research on communication and children's rights. In addition, she has worked as a communication practitioner in NGOs in Latin America and Europe for more than ten years.
