To prepare a double degree program for the BA degree program in Applied Media and Communication Studies, a delegation from the Institute of Media and Communication Science (IfMK) visited the Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta (UAJY) in Indonesia from Sept. 2nd to Sept. 7th 2018. Prof. Martin Löffelholz (Director of the IfMK), Dr. Andreas Schwarz (Internationalization Officer of the Faculty of Economics and Media) and Gunther Kreuzberger (Specialist Study Advisor of the IfMK), together with representatives of the Department of Communication of the UAJY, drafted a study program and discussed core conditions for the preparation of a cooperation agreement.

Provided that the committees of both universities approve the concept, selected students from Ilmenau and Yogyakarta can acquire a second degree at the respective partner university from the academic year 2020/21 without extending their studies. For AMW students, a study visit to Indonesia would be particularly interesting because the country, as the third most populous democracy in the world (after India and the USA) and a member of the Southeast Asian association ASEAN, provides access to one of the world's largest free trade zones and is therefore one of the most important growth markets for German industry. The IfMK has been cooperating with the Department of Communication of the UAJY since 1999.

In addition to the planning of the double degree program, the Ilmenau scientists spoke in a public seminar on "The Automation of Communication" and held lectures for students of communication science and computer science. Dr. Schwarz gave a lecture on the management of strategic crisis communication in the BA course of studies in communication science. Computer scientist Gunther Kreuzberger informed himself about didactics and quality of teaching and discussed central questions of data security with students of computer science. Prof. Löffelholz analyzed the political economy of the media in Germany and Indonesia in the MA course in Communication Science.
