How Are Sex Toys Used And Which Effects Do They Have?

Prof. Döring and PD Dr. Pöschl publish in the Journal of Sex Research

The Journal of Sex Research

In their article "Experiences With Diverse Sex Toys Among German Heterosexual Adults: Findings From a National Online Survey" - published in "The Journal of Sex Research" (Impact Factor 2017: 2.921) - Prof. Dr. Nicola Döring and PD Dr. Sandra Pöschl, Research Group Media Psychology and Media Design, present current data on the use and effects of various material sex products marketed as so-called "sex toys".

It was found that about half of the heterosexually identified adult online population uses sex toys for solo and partner sex and experiences considerably stronger positive than negative effects. Critical discourses on the commercialization and technologization of sex through increasingly technologized sex products are thus obviously countered by a predominantly positive subjective experience on the part of the users. At the same time, many questions about the relevance of sex toys for the sexual health and sexual well-being of different population groups remain open.
