IfMK research groups successfully present at ICA annual conference in Washington

At the annual conference of the International Communication Association (ICA), which took place from 24 to 28 May 2019 in Washington D.C., scientists from the Institute for Media and Communication Studies (IfMK) at the TU Ilmenau presented the latest research results from four studies.

Xu Yi, Aliya Iskenderova, Christina Schumann, Emese Domahidi and Mira Rochyadi-Reetz at the ICA annual meeting in Washington.

During the conference Xu Yi and Dr. Christina Schumann met a former IfMK colleague, Dr. Jan Herling, who is now working at Facebook in Seattle.

Aliya Iskenderova and Jun.-Prof. Emese Domahidi from the Computational Communication Research Group spoke about "Bias in Algorithms and Algorithmic Filtering in Online Media: Systematic Review". Dr. Christina Schumann from the Empirical Media Research and Political Communication Research Group explained the findings of a study on "Upset With the Refugee Policy: Exploring the Relations Among Policy Malaise, Media Use, Trust in News Media, and Topic Fatigue". She had worked on the study with Prof. Jens Wolling (TU Ilmenau) and Dorothee Arlt (University of Bern).

Xu Yi, PhD student with Prof. Martin Löffelholz in the Media Studies Research Group, analyzed the framing of national images in a poster presentation. Title of her study: "Framing national images: Comparing images of the Belt and Road Forum in news coverage and Facebook comments in Pakistan and the USA". Finally, Mira Rochyadi-Reetz from the Empirical Media Research and Political Communication Research Group spoke on the topic "Online media coverage on climate change in Indonesia".
