Internet Sexuality and Identity Work

Prof. Döring publishes in the „Handbuch Soziale Praktiken und Digitale Alltagswelten“ [Handbook Social Practices and Everyday Worlds]

„Handbuch Soziale Praktiken und Digitale Alltagswelten“

The boundaries between online and offline are increasingly blurred in today's mediatized and digitized everyday worlds. People stream their current activities, be they of sportive, sexual or professional nature, and thus bring them "online". Conversely, they bring the web into their everyday lives, for instance, when they use apps to do sports, meditate or try to overcome their anxieties.

In the „Handbuch Soziale Praktiken und Digitale Alltagswelten“ [Handbook Social Practices and Everyday Worlds] (edited by H. Friese, M. Nolden, G. Rebane, & M. Schreiter) various content-related aspects of digital everyday worlds as well as methods for their investigation are highlighted, such as "digital workspaces" and "digital nomads", "online migrants" and "racism online", but also digital youth cultures and the digital everyday worlds of people with disabilities. The contribution of Prof. Döring, Research Group Media Psychology and Media Design of the TU Ilmenau, covers „Internet-Sexualität und Identitätsarbeit“ [Internet Sexuality and Identity Work]. It is shown how various online activities (e.g. use of online sex education, online pornography, queer online communities or online sex work) are related to the sexual and gender identity of a person.
