At the invitation of Dr. Andreas Schwarz in the Group for Research in Public Relations and Communication of Technology, Matthew Seeger, Professor at Wayne State University in Detroit (USA) will speak to students in the Master's program Media and Communication Science today at the TU Ilmenau about COVID19 communication of international health authorities. The coronavirus poses unprecedented challenges for authorities such as the World Health Organization (WHO), the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) or the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Never before has the crisis and risk communication of these institutions been so highly regarded as it is today.

In the seminar Managing Strategic Crisis Communication, Seeger analyses communication plans and processes developed by health authorities in response to the corona pandemic via online conference. Communication strategies and the special challenges posed by COVID-19 will also be discussed. Finally, Seeger gives an outlook on the so-called "new normality" after the pandemic.

Internationally leading communication scientist for risk communication

Matthew Seeger is one of the leading international scientists in this field and has already participated in numerous projects in cooperation with WHO and CDC. He is Dean of the College of Fine, Performing & Communication Arts at Wayne State University. Among other things, he is also known as co-editor of the Handbook of International Crisis Communication Research, which was produced in 2016 together with Dr. Andreas Schwarz and Claudia Auer from the TU Ilmenau.
