Ilmenau, 17/07/2020

At the end of the practical seminar "Career Field Orientation Public Relations", 22 students from Technische Universität Ilmenau presented their creative PR concepts to a jury from 1 to 6 pm on Friday, the 17th of July. Even under the special conditions of an online pitch, the student junior agencies succeeded in convincing their clients, GB Neuhaus GmbH and the climate agency of the Thuringian State Office for Environment, Mining and Nature Conservation (TLUBN), with their well-designed concepts after only ten weeks of intensive conceptual work.

Due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the career field orientation PR entered its 19th round this year under special conditions. After the students of Applied Media and Communication Science had first acquired the theoretical knowledge of PR conception last winter semester, as every year, they got to know this year's clients only in May during a video conference. The head of the department, Frank Reinhardt, and his colleague Tobias Neumann presented the assignment of the Thuringian climate agency. Managing Director Michael Petry and his colleague Philipp Müller answered initial questions about the GB Neuhaus GmbH assignment.

Under the supervision of Ninette Pett, managing director of PETT PR Gesellschaft für Unternehmenskommunikation in Gotha, and seminar leader Tatjana Faj from the Group for Research in Public Relations and Communication of Technology, the students then developed PR strategies and concrete measure plans tailored to the clients. Three groups of three to four students each developed strategic concepts for public communication in order to inform new target groups about the work and the information offered by the TLUBN climate agency and to encourage them to concern themselves more with the effects of climate change. Three other groups were dedicated to product PR in the business-to-business area for GB Neuhaus GmbH.

In the end, on Friday each group had 20 minutes to convince the jury consisting of the clients and the two lecturers with their creative ideas and professional presentations. The junior agency KESALIJA succeeded in convincing Frank Reinhardt of its concept with its numerous creative suggestions and a concrete and easily comprehensible presentation of measures. Michael Petry chose the junior agency Present as the winner and was particularly enthusiastic about its appealing visualisations.

The two-semester seminar “Career Field Orientation PR” is offered each year in the Bachelor’s study program Applied Media and Communication Science for students in the third and fourth semesters. During the development of the campaigns, the creative young talents of the future are assisted by professionals. In recent years, some of the ideas and concepts developed in the process have been implemented by clients, including Erfurt/Weimar Airport or the Jena-based company Jenoptik, together with the young talent agencies.
