Jun.-Prof. Dr. Emese Domahidi is co-author of a paper in "The Oxford Handbook of Digital Technology and Society on „Computer-Mediated Communication, Psychological Well-Being, and Psychopathological Symptoms: A Computational Scoping Review of an Interdiscip

In order to map the immensely popular, highly interdisciplinary and heterogeneous field and reveal the central research topics and disciplinary boundaries, a computational scoping review was carried out in this article. Based on a sample of 4,118 systematically identified scientific contributions, an automatic text analysis using Topic Modeling was first carried out. The 110 topics identified were then qualitatively analyzed and condensed into nine relevant topics that analyzed over time. In addition, the central publication organs and disciplinary affiliations of the scientific contributions were identified.

The results show that previous research in this area has focused primarily on addictive/problematic use of computer mediated communication, while the concept of psychological well-being has received less attention. At the same time, a clear dominance of certain disciplines in the field of research becomes apparent: Most of the studies originate from psychology and psychiatric research, while communication science has so far had little influence. Based on the results obtained, the paper develops and discusses future directions for communication science research in the field.
