Link adaptation between two CR nodes using Artificial Intelligence

Abstract:
Cognitive Radio (CR) is one of new wireless communication approaches which have recently emerged as a promising technology to improve the utilization of the existing radio resources. CR adapts the link autonomously according to environmental factors such as noise, path loss, fading loss, interference in addition to the desired Quality of Service (QoS) of user’s applications. The adaptation of single link needs to use some Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based algorithms for adapting the link autonomously, in order to find best waveform which achieves desired QoS of applications under surrounding environment’s changes. Our contribution to the workshop is the proposal of an algorithm which is based on Adaptive Discrete Particle Swarm Optimization (ADPSO) to find the best link configuration under changes of external environment. We propose to include Automatic Repeat reQuest (ARQ) technique inside our algorithm to validate the configuration set for achieving the desired QoS. Our proposed algorithm is called ARQ-ADPSO which is an AI-based approach for efficient spectrum utilization and link configuration. We achieve improvements in convergence time, fitness value, signaling overhead and spectrum utilization under three different scenarios, comparing to previous work.
