Accompanying the lectures "technical computer science", "computer organization", "integrated hard and software systems" as well as "logic design" interactive work sheets were made available as web pages. These pages serve as collection of formulas on one side and interactive designing tools (so called "Living Pictures") supporting the single design steps of digital systems on the other side. With these interactive pages the students can test prepared and newly designed digital circuits. These tests will help students to understand the textbook "Schaltsysteme" (Pearson- Verlag 2003) better as well as improve the knowledge in the above mentioned lectures.

TRICE- TEACHING, RESEARCH and INNOVATION in COMPUTING EDUCATION

Project manager:
Dr.-Ing. Heinz- Dietrich Wuttke
The concrete aim of this proposal is to introduce research and innovations in Computing education and training. This will be achieved through analysing the existing situation, exchanging experiences, disseminating good practices among all partners and raising the quality of education, by using innovative educational technologies. Another aspect of the main goal is to integrate teams from universities, research institutes and companies so that ETN TRICE becomes teaching, research and innovations operator in Computing Education. This objective will be achieved and the activities completed thanks to the collective experience and results achieved from the two previous successfully completed networks "European Computing Education and Training" and "Doctoral Education in Computing".

The project "DILDIS - Distance Learning on Digital Systems" is a co-work of researchers and students of Tallinn University of Technology and Technical University of Ilmenau. It combines Tallinn University of Technology experience in the field of testing and diagnostics of digital microelectronics and the creation of training systems, and also Technical University of Ilmenau experience in the creation of interactive, communication-oriented learning modules in the area of digital systems, that were realized in the project "SANE" / 1/, / 2/. The main goal of the "DILDIS" project is to create a web-based tutorial for the consolidation of course topics and for preparation for examinations and practical training. As a result of this project learning modules will be developed. These modules will be available over the Internet in several languages. The web pages contain a theoretical, a hyperlinked text part and an interactive, action based part for practical experiments in the form of Java Applets. The applets can be used also as independent modules.
