Nowadays the use of Aerial Base Stations (ABSs) become more and more attractive approach to increase the system capacity in areas with temporarily high data demand. In our research we have found that centralized placement algorithms pose high computational and communication requirements on the studied system. Instead, we propose to use the distributed system with implicit control, where each agent acts based on local knowledge only.
To reduce mutual interference, it is necessary to separate ABSs in space. However, the agent may not have up-to-date information about its neighbors. Thus, it is proposed to use a model-based prediction using the model of unmanned aerial vehicle.

Nowadays the use of Aerial Base Stations (ABSs) become more and more attractive approach to increase the system capacity in areas with temporarily high data demand. In order to evaluate the proposed placement schemes, the simulation environment is used. However, the accuracy and validity of results depend on the used Air-to-Ground Propagation (A2G) propagation model.
The model was experimentally validated using the real ABS prototype. However, it is not yet clear how the inaccuracies of the GNSS measurement will affect the collected data set. For this purpose, a further experiment with the measured position references has to be carried out and their results analysed.

Nowadays the use of Aerial Base Stations (ABSs) become more and more attractive approach to increase the system capacity in areas with temporarily high data demand. Instead of centralized placement algorithms, we have developed the self-organized framework. It uses reinforcement learning (RL) to ensure a proper separation distance between ABSs and to mitigate a mutual interference. However, it is still required to analyze the convergence rate of RL in different user distributions and to adapt the algorithm based on these findings.

Tasks:
* Literature study on RL techniques in general and specific to multi-robot deployments;
* Simulative analysis of the Q-Learning convergence rate, its visualization and comparison to other RL techniques;
* Extension/modification of current algorithm to ensure reliable and quick adaptation for different scenarios.

Successful aerial base station placement requires the knowledge of user equipment locations. This data needs to be collected continuously to provide a up-to-date information for a placement algorithm. In order to prepare the experimental evaluation of the aerial base station placement, the location data collector needs to be developed.
Its main goal is to receive the GPS location data from multiple Android-based phones, which sends this data using UDP sockets.
The location data collector needs to save received data into internal database and then provide this data to the placement algorithm.
Tasks:
• write Python program, which receives UDP datagrams from user equipment, decodes them and saves into internal database;
• validate the functionality of the developed program in real world environment, using WiFi (IEEE 802.11) communication link;
• conduct several experiments, tune sending/receiving parameters and analyze the capacity and robustness of the link.

Delay tolerant networks are intermittently connected networks where nodes apply the store-carry-forward mechanism to communicate. This mechanism relies on the mobility of wireless nodes and the forwarding of messages. However, messages must tolerate a long latency due to disconnections in a network. Regarding to the message forwarding in delay tolerant networks, different approaches may be applied such as epidemic, social tie based and history based message forwarding. The goal of this project is to develop an application for the Android platform to emulate the delay tolerant routing protocols.

Device-to-device (D2D) communication was introduced in 3GPP standards release 12 allowing user equipment in close proximity to communicate directly with minimal network involvement. D2D presents increased spectral efficiency benefits within existing cellular networks. However, the challenge of intra-cell interference limits the spectrum reuse within a given cell in the network. The focus of this research is to design an algorithm for the selection of appropriate D2D pairs allowed to share spectrum of cellular network while minimizing the intra-cell interference to both the cellular network users and also other D2D users.

Nowadays a problem of a mobile base station (MBS) placement attracts more and more attention. Movement capabilities of the MBS can be used to follow a crowd of cellular users. Therefore, a placement algorithm for MBS needs to be implemented. The performance of the algorithm is dependent on the accuracy of the provided data and accuracy of the algorithm itself. Localization accuracy, radio propagation model estimation etc. contributes to the final results.

Tasks:
* Literature study on error modelling in aerial and communication systems;
* Preparation of several scenarios and models in order to evaluate the influence of the particular error source;
* Influence estimation of different error sources and performance analysis of the proposed approach using simulations in Python.

In unknown environments, dynamic trajectory planning for a UAV represents an effective solution for localizing wireless nodes. The UAV must localize wireless nodes accurately and efficiently without wasting resources.
However, employing a single UAV for localization in vast areas causes long latency and may not be feasible. To overcome these problems, multiple UAVs can be applied in the network.
In this case, cooperation between UAVs is required to avoid redundant visits of already localized nodes. Also, covering the same area by different UAVs will waste time and time is the most crucial parameter in disaster scenarios.
As UAVs may not be always connected to exchange information about their planned trajectory and localized nodes, one possible solution will be employing a signaling of control information among UAVs.
There are two types of signaling. In the first case an explicit signaling is used, where a UAV exchanges the control information whenever it encounters another UAV. However, in the vast networks this cannot be applicable as UAVs have short communication range.
The other feasible solution is implicit signaling through wireless nodes. This can also be called delay tolerant signaling. To implement this, a list of localized nodes is stored in the network among localized nodes.
Wireless nodes act as relay nodes to exchange signaling information among UAVs (indirect signaling of UAVs).
By indirect signaling of UAVs through nodes, the redundancy in time, covered area and number of localized nodes can be decreased significantly. It can improve the latency of localization and decrease the traveled distance of UAVs.

Quite recently, considerable attention has been paid to the problem of anchor placement, i.e. a design of a trajectory for a mobile anchor (UAV in our case). Previous studies on this issue have shown that a well-planned mobile anchor trajectory increases the speed and accuracy of the localization process [1].
In this paper, one very challenging scenario is considered where an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is flying over an urban area, which suffers from a disaster. The purpose of a UAV is to localize ’survived’ devices, enabled with Wi-Fi module. The obtained information will help to accelerate the rescue process of people who are stuck inside a building.
This work will be mainly divided into two parts:
1) Simulation part
Implementation of chosen three trajectories (namely, Sierpiński curve, Lebesgue curve and Peano curve) in Python.
Simulation of those and comparison with the existing trajectories.
Consideration of two scenarios, with and without a building.
Based on the simulation results, choosing one or two for the experimental evaluation.
2) Experimental part
Evaluation of the chosen trajectory in a real-world experiment considering two scenarios.

Applying the solution of vehicle routing problem for path planning of multiple message ferries

Message ferrying is a solution to exchange delay tolerant messages among disconnected wireless nodes that are located out of the transmission range of each other. A ferry node (e.g. UAV), travels among disconnected nodes and deliver their messages. The mobility of a ferry node can be controlled and its travel path can be given in advance. Vehicle routing problem (VRP) is a combinatorial optimization problem which defines set of optimal routes for a fleet of vehicles.
The goal of this project is to model the message ferry path planning problem as VRP and to propose a solution to minimize the message delivery delay in a message ferry network.

Existierende E-Assessment-Systeme, sowohl Alleinstehende (z.B. Questionmark Perception, Respondus) als auch in Lernplattformen (z.B. moodle, ILIAS, Backboard) integrierte Werkzeuge setzen nur einfache Fragetypen (z.B. Multiple-Choice) für die Überprüfung des gelernten Wissens ein. Dies ermöglicht meist nur das Abprüfen von Faktenwissen. Eine selbstständige Bearbeitung komplexer Verständnis-, Anwendungs- und Analyseaufgaben kann damit nicht überprüft werden. Bezogen auf die Bloom’sche Taxonomie bedeutet dies, dass die unteren Stufen durch bestehende Assessment-Systeme und -Werkzeuge abgedeckt werden, wohingegen die oberen 3 (Analyse, Synthese, Evaluation), auch als Kompetenzen höherer Ordnung bezeichnet, ein Problem darstellen.

Ziel dieser Arbeit ist die konzeptuelle Integration von interaktiven und simulativen Werkzeugen in die Prozesse eines E-Assessment-Systems und deren prototypische Implementierung am Beispiel des am FG Integrierte Kommunikationssysteme entwickelten Online-Laboratoriums RemoteLab sowie des am Fraunhofer IDMT entwickelten E-Assessment-Systems askme!.

Multimediale Lehr- und Lerninhalte (oder kurz „Lernobjekte“) sind in den unterschiedlichsten Technologien bezüglich Erzeugung, Speichermedium und Distributionsmöglichkeiten in den letzten Jahren entwickelt worden. Es wurden unterschiedliche Autorenwerkzeuge eingesetzt, die die weitere Verwendbarkeit der so erzeugten Lernobjekte wesentlich beeinflussen. Sie werden entweder auf Datenträgern und Servern der Autoren oder komfortabler in Contentmanagement- (CMS) oder Lernmanagement- Systemen (LMS) verwaltet. Um derartige Materialien zu nutzen gibt es gegenwärtig nur die Möglichkeit, in Kontakt mit den Autoren zu treten und individuelle Kooperationen einzugehen. Sollen die Materialien dann zusätzlich noch in einen neuen, eigenen Kontext gestellt werden, so ist der hierfür notwendige Arbeitsaufwand meist höher als ein Neuentwurf.

Zeil des Hauptseminars ist es, exemplarisch wiederverwendbare Lernobjekte zu realisieren, die auf unterschiedlichen Plattformen laufen können.

Simulation von Quadkoptern-Schwarmen ist ein sehr interessantes Thema. Je realitätsnäher die Simulation ist, desto erfolgreicher und sicherer die experimentellen Erprobungen sind. Wir haben ein Schwarm Algorithmus mit Morse simuliert und mit realen Koptern getestet. Die Aufgabe ist das Schwarm Algorithmus mit dem Simulator für Robotern Gazebo zu simulieren und festzustellen, welcher Vorteile Gazebo gegenüber Morse hat.

- ein Modell auswählen

Description:
Realitätsnahe Simulationsmodelle sind ein wertvolles Werkzeug um Algorithmen zu entwickeln, die später mit realen Quadkoptern getestet werden. Wir haben einen Simulator, mit dem man einen Quadkopternswarm simulieren kann. Wir verfügen auch über eine Flöte von Quadkoptern, mit der man Schwarmalgorithmen testen kann. Ergebnisse von realen Quadkoptern unterscheiden sich von Simulationsergebnisse. Das liegt an Parametern, die Windwiderstand und PID-Reglern des Koptern beeinflussen. Solche Parametern lassen sich nicht eins zu eins von realen Quadkoptern in den Simulator übertragen.

Ziel der Arbeit ist Werte für die oben genannte Parametern zu finden, mit den der Simulator realitätsnah Ergebnisse liefert. Dafür könnte Mann eine Brute-Force-Methode (erschöpfende Suche) anwenden, indem alle mögliche Kombinationen von Parametern testet, bis die Simulation die Realität ähnelt. Da diese Methode Zeit intensive ist, wird erwünscht, Methoden wie Evolutionäre Algorithmen oder Gradientenverfahren bei der Suche auszuprobieren.

- Unserer Kopternsimulator kennenzulernen (Python)


- Realen- und Simulationsergebnisse von einer Schwarstrategie zu vergleichen


- Implementierung eines Suchverfahren, um die Simulatorergebnisse realitätsnäher zu machen

Offline-online decison making for multi-ferry networks

Description:
Message ferry networks are disconnected wireless networks where message ferry nodes are employed to travel among disconnected nodes and deliver their messages. The travel path of ferries can be planned offline or ferries can decide their mobility online (on-the-fly). The goal of this project is to propose a message ferry network with multiple message ferries where the path for some ferries are planned offline and other ferries make decision on-the-fly. Each ferry may visit all nodes or a subset of nodes. The assignment of ferries to nodes and type of decision making for a ferry(offline or online) must be done in such a way which the average delay for message delivery in a network is minimized.
The optimization problem should be solved (approximated applying heuristic methods) and the proposed solution must be compared to the networks with pure offline path planning for ferries and networks with pure on-the-fly decision making.
