- The task of this work is to optimize the physical positions of 3G network elements (concentrators, RNCs, SGSNs) and their linkage. Multiple objectives like costs, link delay
and network length have to be considered. As this problem is NP-hard an approximation method based on Simulated Annealing is used. It is shown that acceptable results can already be achieved by a simple heuristic using a mixture of random and distance based link manipulation operations. The resulting topologies are still star-like and a chaining of node Bs is not recognized.
