After payment of the registration fee to the account mentioned you will receive an admission sheet you need to apply for a visa at the embassy.

The course Living and Studying in Germany teaches German for general situations. The course is open to participants from any academic discipline or profession.

The course aims to improve the students' German skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing.

Content emphasis are:

• Speaking: improvement of communication skills

• Vocabulary: extension of the words you know

• Grammar: deepening of your knowledge

• intercultural training, application training, presentation training  

The course is supplemented with social events and excursions. 

Four lessons will take place in the mornings and two additional sessions in the afternoons (Monday to Friday).              

Possible topics of intercultural training and application training are "Cultural Orientation in Comparison", "Job Application", etc.

The course Living and Studying in Germany involves researching, assembling and presenting of a Project Work

Furthermore, individual and group instruction is offered in pronunciation practice lessons to support participants in accent reduction. These lessons are given by teachers who are specially trained in phonetics.

There will be a placement test at the start of the course. This is to help establish the various groups: Elementary, Intermediate or Advanced, with groups of about 10 people. 


The course concludes with a language exam and the awarding of certificates.

Accompanying program

There is a cultural program nearly each day which is an organised part of the summer course.

The course fees include:

Excursions for example to Bamberg, Eisenach und Saalfelder Feengrotten, together with walks in the wooded hills of the Thüringer Wald.

Social events
In the evenings, there is a warm invitation to concerts, plays, folk-dancing, workshops, lectures, physical activities and games, and to parties. The language teachers and course helpers will be there for the welcoming party on the first evening and for the farewell party. Student social life revolves in Ilmenau around the student clubs – the course members can find relaxation and entertainment late into the night.

The staff in the office for the German course will gladly lend out sports equipment for games such as football, basketball, volleyball, tennis and table tennis.
