Information from March 26 ,2020

It might come to financial problem for students. Discussions are underway at the university /Studierendenwerk / state government and probably also in the Federal Ministry of Education on this topic. Results are not known yet.

Important: Keep an eye on your finances. E.g in case of missing balance in your account, direct debits from the account (e.g. rent payments from the Studierendenwerk) lead to addtional costs. Please contact your landlord in time to find a solution.

Loans from the Studierendenwerk for students:
The Studierendenwerk Thüringen offers an interest-free bridging loan of max. 800 €.
To make use of this loan, you need to
- present proof of enrolment
- justify the emergency situation, e.g. by presenting a notice of termination of the job, and
- show the income in the months of January and February.

In addition, students can negotiate with their landlord about a deferral of the rent.

Notification and quarantine

Notification and quarantine

If you have entered Germany from somewhere abroad in the last 14 days (since March 6, 2020), you must remain in quarantine in your room for 14 days.

This is certainly very difficult, but we try to help you.

It is also important that you have to report to the health office of the Ilm district (the regional authority). There are special forms for this online. You will receive a call back by phone. You can select the language (German or English) for the call in advance.

If you live in Ilm Kreis (Ilm district) fill out this contact form online. It is available in several languages. You can select the language in the top right-hand corner.

Note: Quarantine also means that you are not allowed to go shopping yourself. Try to make contact with your fellow countrymen. We will help you.

Contact us at we4you@tu-ilmenau.de (or see contact).

We will also try to answer any other questions you may have (internet, telephone, media, community etc.). It is important that you get in touch with us.

Attention: Those who do not comply with the quarantine must expect penalties (Fines, prison sentence in extreme cases).

Exams

Exams

Examinations that were supposed to take place at the moment have generally been cancelled until 4 May 2020.

However, you can arrange an exam with your examiner for an oral exam via Skype, for example.

If you are at the end of your studies and absolutely want to be examined, this is possible in consultation with the lecturer. Write an e-mail or call them directly.

Term papers and theses are generally postponed by 8 weeks from 20.3.2020. This means that if you had to hand in your thesis on 30.3.2020, you will not have to hand it in until 25.5.2020. You do not have to apply for this. This applies automatically. The lecturers of the TU Ilmenau will continue to supervise you, even during this time. If you still have questions, please send an e-mail to your examination office.

Travel within Germany

Travel within Germany

Travel within Germany is still possible. However, individual cities and regions may impose curfews. In this case, you will not be able to leave the place where you went to. It is also becoming increasingly difficult to get a bus or train connection. The Rectorate has prohibited travel that is not necessary. You as a student should also adhere to this.

For this reason we advise you not to travel at the moment. It is best to stay at the place where you live.

If you need to travel urgently, check the webpage of the Deutsche Bahn so that you know which train is running and which is not.

Travel to Europe and worldwide

Travel to Europe and worldwide

At the present time, travel within Europe by air is still possible. However, the external borders of Germany are already closed to many other countries and only if you live or work there you are allowed to cross them.

Worldwide flights have been banned by the EU Commission.

The Foreign Office has issued a worldwide travel warning. This also applies to you as a student. The Rectorate has also largely prohibited travel. You have to adhere to this rule as well.
