Changes on study times

Non-recognition of the summer semester 2020 as part of the standard period of study

What is that?

The Corona statute allows you to have the summer semester not credited to the standard period of study applicable to you, i.e. the number of semesters of study (Fachsemester) passed does not increase, if you apply for it. You can still take examinations, final papers and study achievements and they will be recognised.

Advantages

  • You remain in the same semester of study (Fachsemester) as you were in the winter term 2019/2020 (i.e. your semesters of study do not rise).
  • Deadlines, that are tied due to examination regulations to certain semesters of study (Fachsemester), such as deadlines to repeat an examination (Wiederholungsfrist) and deadlines for the first attempt to pass an examination (Erstantrittsfrist), are suspended. The deadlines only apply on the following semester of study (Fachsememster); i.e. not on the summer term 2020.
  • Study and examination results as well as theses can be completed.
  • You have time to apply for it until October 28, 2020.

Disadvantages

  • There may be problems with BAföG subsidies, as there will be an individual examination must be carried out to justify longer support. The BAföG office (BAföG-Amt) provides a form for this purpose, which you and the responsible examination office must fill in and submit. You can find the form on the pages of the BAföG-Amt Thuringia. According to the BAföG-Amt, there is no automatism for further support. If you have any questions or are unsure, you should contact your BAföG office representative.
  • There may occur problems with scholarships. Please ask your scholarship provider before you apply for the non-recognition whether it will have any effects on your scholarship.

How do I apply for the summer semester 2020 not to be credited to the standard period of study applicable to you?

  1. Please think about whether you want to take advantage of this opportunity and find out about and consider advantages and disadvantages.
  2. Get the form from the ASC (-> Special provisions) and fill it in.
  3. Applications should be justified with minimum one of the following given reasons:
    1. if you did not have access to IT-supported teaching and examination offerings (for example, bad internet, lectures were not offered online)
    2. if you have been excluded from participation in your studies, final examinations and the completion of the final thesis or parts thereof because of COVID-19 (for example, if you had COVID-19, if you were in quarantine, if laboratories and machines were not accessible for the thesis, if you could not use the library)
    3. if you were not able to attend face-to-face meetings due to COVID-19 regulations (for example, if you were not allowed to enter Germany)
    4. if no virtual online learning options were offered in your study programm
    5. if you are unable to attend in-person events for the protection of your health (e.g. if you have a pre-existing illness or belong to risk groups or get in contact with corona patients at your working place).
  4. You have to submit your application to the ASC no later than October 28, 2020 (four weeks after the end of summer term 2020). The arrival date at ASC counts. Please also note the regular information on the webpages of the ASC / students' office as well as any emails sent by the students' office. These information are binding.
  5. You will receive a notification about the non-recognition of the summer semester 2020 from the ASC. Additionally, please check your certificate of enrolment and the information in the Thoska system whether everything worked out.

Changes on study times

Additional leave of absence (Urlaubssemester = semester off)

What is that?

If you decide to take a leave of absence for the duration of the semester, you are exempted from studying for an important reason (leave of absence = Urlaubssemester). Corona-related issues are now considered an important reason - which means you can apply for an additional semester of leave. Also, it does not reduces your regular semesters of leave, so you are not loosing any. The possibility to take a leave of abscence and the process to apply for it are regulated in the enrolment regulations of TU Ilmenau (-> "Allg. Satzungsrecht").

  • As this is an extra semester of leave of absence, it will not count towards the regular semesters leave of absence. So you will not lose any semesters of leave of absence.

Disadvantages

  • Before you register for a semester of leave of absence as international student with study visa, you should contact the aliens' office (Ausländerbehörde). Since you will be exempted from studying during the semester of leave of absence, this usually has a negative effect on your stay as a student and will only be approved by the aliens' office in exceptional cases. We therefore recommend that you take advantage of the non-recognition of the semester (see first point).
  • BAföG subsidies will be paused during the semester of leave of absence, so you have to repay benefits already received during the semester of leave of absence.
  • There may occur problems with child allowance (Kindergeld) and other social subsidies during the semester of leave of absence. Please contact the office responsible for child allowance or the respective authorities beforehand, if your parents receive it for you.
  • There may occur problems with family insurance (Familienversicherung = until 25 years you can be health insured by your parents, if they have a German health insurance) during the semester of leave of absence. Before you apply for a leave of absence, please inform your health insurance company if you have family insurance.
  • There may occur problems with scholarships. Please ask your scholarship provider before you apply for the non-recognition whether it will have any effects on your scholarship.
  • The application must be submitted no later than June 30, 2020!

How do I apply for the additional semester of leave of absence?

  1. Please think about whether you want to take advantage of this opportunity and find out about and consider advantages and disadvantages.
  2. Get the form from the ASC (Special provisions § 5) and fill it in. On the form, tick the last reason "Einschränkende Wirkungen der Virus SARS-CoV-2-Pandemie 2020 auf den allgemeinen Verlauf des Studienbetriebs" (="The restrictive effects of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic 2020 on the general course of study and examination procedures").
  3. Hand in the application to the ASC no later than June 30, 2020. The arrival date at ASC counts.
  4. You will receive a notification about the recognition of the summer semester 2020 as semester of leave of absence (Urlaubssemester) from the ASC. Additionally, please check your certificate of enrolment and the information in the Thoska system whether everything worked out.

I have already taken a semester off for the summer semester 2020. Is it possible to withdraw your vacation semester or change the reason for it because of the changed legal situation due to the Corona Statutes?

If you have taken your leave of absence (Urlaubssemester) for the summer semester 2020 before 12th June 2020 (date of legal entry into force of the Corona Statutes), it is possible to change the purpose of the leave of absence (Urlaubssemester) to restrictions by COVID-19 or to withdraw the leave of absence (Urlaubssemester) upon justified reasons. One reason among others for this can be, that the legal situation has changed and you have suffered disadvantages due to COVID-19 during your leave  of absence (Urlaubssemester) (e.g. during internships, if you wanted to take exams and study achievements). Please submit the application to the Studierendensekretariat/ASC as soon as possible. It is also possible to apply for non-recognition of the summer term 2020 instead of the leave of absence due to COVID-19.

Possible disadvantages in case of withdrawal of the application for the leave of abscence (Urlaubssemester) and annulment of the summer term 2020:

If you withdraw the application for a leave of absence for the summer term 2020 and make use of the non-recognition, the semester fee for the summer term 2020 will be due retroactively if you have not yet paid it. The same applies if you have already received a refund of the semester fee for the summer semester 2020 from the Studierendenwerk Thüringen and/or the StuRa. In this case you have to pay the refunded fees again.

How do I withdraw my abscence of leave (Urlaubssemester) or change its reason to COVID-19?

  1. Check whether you have suffered any disadvantages due to COVID-19 during your abscence of leave (Urlaubssemester) (e.g. when catching up on exams) and whether you took your abscence of leave (Urlaubssemester) before 12th June 2020.
  2. If you have suffered a disadvantage, want to withdraw your abscence of leave (Urlaubssemester) in the summer term 2020 or change the reason to COVID-19, send an application to the Studierendensekretariat/ASC as soon as possible. Decide whether you want to withdraw your abscence of leave (Urlaubssemester) in the application or change the reason to "Restrictive effects of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic 2020 virus on the general course of study".
  3. Justify the application with the disadvantages found as well as the change of the legal situation by the adoption of the Corona Statutes (Statutes BB SARS-CoV2-Pandemic SoSe2020).
  4. Please note the possible obligation to pay the semester contribution when withdrawing the abscence of leave (Urlaubssemester) (see previous information).
  5. Submit the application to the Studierendensekretariat/ASC as soon as possible. The withdrawal of the abscence of leave (Urlaubssemester) or the change of the reason will be confirmed to you. Please also check your certificate of enrollment and the entries in the Thoska system to see if it worked out.
  6. Please note that a separate application must be handed in for the cancellation of the semester and that it does not happen automatically (see Non-recognition of the summer semester 2020 as part of the standard period of study).

Legal basis: § 5 Corona Statutes together with § 8 Enrolment Regulations of TU Ilmenau

Changes to exam regulations

Suspension of time limits and deadlines

Which deadlines are actually hindered?

In the summer term 2020, the following deadlines will be hindered:

  • deadlines to repeat an examination in case of failure (Wiederholungsfristen - Re-examination in case of failure must be taken after two semesters at the latest, without corona-related regulations.)
  • deadlines for the first attempt to pass an examination (Erstantrittsfrist - Exams up until the 4th semester of study (Fachsemester) must be taken without corona-realted legislation no later than the second semester as recommended in the curriculum.)
  • deadlines for taking free attempts and attempts to improve grades (Without corona legislation free attempts and attempts to improve grades can only be applied to exams taken for the first time before or during the recommended semester of study (Fachsemester) in the curriculum.).

What does this mean?

As the deadlines are hindered during the summer term 2020, you have one semester more time to take the exams for the first time or to do the re-examination as well as to apply for free attempts and attempts to improve grades.

What do I have to do?

You do not have to do anything; it is automatically given. You just have to make sure that by winter term all deadlines are back to normal and that you sign-up for exams and apply for re-examination as well as for free attempts and attempts to improve grades in time.

What if I have already decided for a semester of leave of absence or for non-recognition as study semester?

In this case, only the deadlines to repeat an examination are automatically suspended by this regulation, since the deadlines for the first attempt to pass an examination as well as free attempts and attempts to improve grades are already postponed by the stoppage of the study semester (Fachsemester) due to the semester of leave of absence or the non-recognition.

Legal basis: § 6 of corona statutes together with Study and Examination Regulations of TU Ilmenau - General Provisions

Changes to exam regulations

Annulment of the results of exams and study achievements (additional attempt)

What does that mean?

You can apply until January 7th, 2021 to have exams and study achievements not counted for the summer term 2020. This means that you can take part in examinations, study achievements, and if your result is bad, you can apply for it not to be counted.

Are there any exceptions to this?

It is important that you take the exam or finals. You have to be present or justify a leave by a doctor (Illnesses are excused but need to be proven by a doctor.). If you not do so, the attempt will be counted. This also applies to attempted cheating.

Advantages

  • You can take all exams and finals (including re-examination) without fear of bad grades or failing, if you have not been able to prepare for the exams or finals in a proper manner due to corona.
  • Because the exams or finals are considered as not undertaken, no deadlines are going to start or are influenced by the decision.

Disadvantages

  • An annulled exam or study achievement is irretrievably cancelled. The rules of a grade improvement do not apply; i.e. if you should achieve a worse result at the next attempt, the result counts and it is not possible to have the result of the annulled exam or study achievement recognised.
  • Problems with the aliens law may occur if the exams or study achievements taken for the first time are annulled, as the aliens' office will consider your study progress and this will be reduced by the regulation.
  • For this reason, it is advisable to submit an application for non-recognition of the semester at the same time when claiming the annulment of exams or study achievements. Also, to print out and file your exam registration and the results before their deletion from the Thoska system can be of importance lateron.

What do I have to do, if I want to take this opportunity?

  1.  Please think about whether you want to take advantage of this opportunity and find out about and consider advantages and disadvantages.
  2. Get the form from the ASC (--> see Speial provisions § 6) or your respective examination office and fill it in.
  3. Hand in the application at your respective examination office no later than January 7, 2021. The arrival date at your respective examination office counts.
  4. You will receive a notification by your examination office, that the exam or study achievement is annulled. Additionally, please check the information in the Thoska system whether everything worked out.

Changes to exam regulations

Free attempts

What is that?

A free attempt ensures that you can take a failed exam once again as a first attempt. So you have one more attempt for the subject chosen.

When do I have the right to use free attempts?

You can only use free attempts if your Examination Regulations - Special Provisions (BPO-BB, MPO-BB or DPO-BB) stipulate that a first failed exam is considered not to be taken if it was first taken before or at the time of the semester recommended in the PStO-BB. If there is no regulation in the Examination Regulations - Special Provisions, you do not have the possibility to take free attempts. The entire number of free attempts and attempts to improve grades (§ 21 paragraph 1 PStO-AB) serves in this case exclusively to improve grades.
Furthermore, the following criteria must be fulfilled in order to be able to take a free attempt:

  1. You have not yet used all your free attempts (see next question) and
  2. the failed exam was one time not passed for the first time and
  3. before or at the time of the semester recommended in the curriculum (PstO-BB Anlage Studienplan) and
  4. was not assessed as "failed" due to cheating and
  5. the registration deadline for the first repetiton examination (within two semesters after failing) has not yet expired, and
  6. an application for the first repetion examination has not yet been submitted.

Legal basis: § 21 Abs. 1 PStO-AB 2019

How many free attempts do I have?

You have a contingent of free attempts and grade improvement attempts which corresponds to your regular number of terms within your studies. This means that if you are studying a Bachelor's degree with 7 semesters of regular study time, you have a total of 7 free attempts or grade improvement attempts. How you distribute these and whether you want to use all of them is up to you. Only the total number (in our example 7) must not be exceeded. Furthermore, you can only use free attempts if they are regulated in your Examination Regulations - Special Provisions (BPO-BB, MPO-BB or DPO-BB) (see previous question).

Legal basis: § 21 Abs. 1 und 3 PStO-AB 2019

In older examination regulations - special provisions (BPO-BB, MPO-BB or DPO-BB) are given different regulations for the grade improvement attempts. Which rules apply?

The regulations of the Examination and Study Regulations - General Provisions (PStO-AB) apply, if your (older) Examination Regulations - Special Provisions (BPO-BB, MPO-BB or DPO-BB) regulate a lower number of free attempts or grade improvement attempts. This means that the contingent of free attempts and grade improvement attempts corresponding to your regular number of semesters remains unchanged (see previous question). If your Examination Regulations - Special Provisions offer a larger number of free and grade improvement attempts, please contact your local examination office for clarification

Legal basis: §§ 1 Abs. 1, 38 PStO-AB 2019

How do take a free attempt?

  1. Check whether the failed exam onw hich you want to apply the free attempt meets the above criteria.
  2. Send the application for the free attempt to your local examination office latest when you register for the first repetition examination (latest within two semesters after failing). You will find the form on the website of your respective examination office. Please note that the registration cannot be revoked.

Legal basis: § 21, paragraph 1 PStO-AB 2019 in conjunction with § 19 PStO-AB 2019

Questions related to the Corona Statute

Do I have to register the free attempt for a subject now if I want to take the subject in the summer term 2020, or can I also register after the non-recognition of a 1st repetition examination after the summer term 2020?

If you wish to take a free attempt in the summer term 2020, it must be declared, when you register for your 1st repetition examination, since according to § 21, paragraph 1 PStO-AB, the declaration to take a free attempt must be made irrevocably when you register for a new examination attempt. Even if the examination attempt is subsequently cancelled, you still registered for this examination.
We recommend to consider whether you want to/may need to take a free attempt in the summer term 2020 or leave it, since you may already receive an additional attempt with the possibility of cancellation due to the Corona Statutes.

I have already submitted my free attempt, but after careful consideration I have come to the conclusion that I want to withdraw it. Is that possible?

Yes. If you have already submitted an application to take advantage of a free trial in the summer term 2020, which has not yet been in effect, and you do not want to take advantage of it, you should as a precautionary measure revoke this declaration at the Examination Office, stating as reason that iwth the Corona Statutes (Statutes BB SARS-CoV2-Pandemic SoSe2020) the legal background changed.
This does not affect the point that if you actually want to make use of the free attempt in the summer term 2020, you must apply for the free attempt with your registration. It is not possible to declare the claim to the free attempt after cancellation of a 1st repetition examination due to the Corona Statutes (see question 1).

How do I withdraw my free attempt?

  1. You write an application to your respective examination office with the request to revoke the declaration to take the free attempt in the selected subject.
  2. The Examination Office will confirm the withdrawal. Please also check your entries in the Thoska system to see if it worked out.

Changes to exam regulations

Grade improvement attempts

What is that?

A grade improvement attempt ensures that you can take a passed exam once more to improve it. The better result of both attempts counts. This gives you the opportunity to improve your grade in the selected subject without having to fear a deterioration.

Legal basis: § 21 Abs. 2 PStO-AB 2019

When do I have the right to use free attempts?

Furthermore, the following criteria must be fulfilled in order to be able to take a free attempt:

  1. You have not yet used all your free attempts (see next question) and
  2. the exam was passed in the first attempt before or at the time of the semester recommended in the curriculum (PstO-BB Anlage Studienplan) and
  3. You did not finished your last performance of your study (final thesis, exam, study achievement).

Legal basis: § 21 Abs. 2 PStO-AB 2019

How many grade improvement attempts do I have?

When do I have to take the exam with the grade improvement attempt?

The examination with the attempt to improve grades must be taken at the latest before the last performance in the course of study is taken.

Legal basis: § 21 Abs. 2 PStO-AB 2019

How do take a grade improvement attempt?

  1. Check whether the passed exam on which you want to apply the grade improvement attempt meets the criteria mentioned above.
  2. Apply for the grade improvement attempt by filling in the corresponding form and submitting it to your respective examination office. Please note that the application cannot be revoked.

Questions related to the Corona Statute

By when do I have to submit the grade improvement attempt for the summer semester 2020?

The grade improvement attempts for examinations to be taken this semester (summer semester 2020) must be submitted in parallel to the examination registration by the end of the registration period latest on 8th July 2020. So if you are sure you want to register for the grade improvement attempt for your subject, you must do so now (by this evening, 8th July 2020 23.59). All others can wait until after Corona.

Can I unregister from the exam for grade improvement?

Yes, it is a normal exam, which you can cancel four days in advance. The attempt to improve your grade will be retained, but it will be bound to the respective exam and you cannot change it. Please note that you have to register for the exam again before the next attempt and that the exam has to be taken before the last performance in your studies.

Can I nullify the result for an exam for grade improvement with the help of the Corona Statutes and can I then freely award it again?

It is possible to have the examination taken in the summer semester 2020 nullified due to corona. This will allow you to take the grade improvement attempt again later. However, the attempt to improve your grade will be kept for the registered subject and cannot be changed to another one. It does not expire, however, so that you can take the exam again in the following semesters, since the cancellation means that the exam is not undertaken. Please remember to register before the next attempt.

If the result of the annulled attempt to improve my grade is better than the result of the repeated attempt to improve my grade, can I use the result of the annulled exam?

No, the nullified result from this semester is permanently deleted. Even if you had a better grade than when you attempted after the summer semester 2020, it is not possible to reactivate the result.

Changes to exam regulations

Suspension of admission requirements for examinations

What does it mean?

Lecturers may suspend admission requirements for modules for final examinations and study achievements in the summer term 2020. This must be published. Please inform yourself if it concerns you and ask the lecturers, if necessary. However, module cascades (examinations as a prerequisite for other examinations) are not automatically suspended.

Changes to exam regulations

Changes in the form of exams, study achievements and finals

What does it mean?

  • Until June 30, 2020 the appointment (open timetable) and the form of the exams (oral, written, alternative examination -> see module handbooks) have to be determined and published by the lecturers.
  • Online formats for examinations are also possible.
  • Additional forms can be defined, which are used if the pandemic situation changes.

What should I be aware of?

  • Please inform yourself in time after June 30, 2020 via open timetable as well as in your module handbooks and via the websites of the university.
  • Please register for the exams not later than July 8, 2020.
  • If you belong to a high-risk volnurable group (e.g. in case of pre-existing health conditions) for COVID-19, you and your examiners can agree on other forms of examinations in order to compensate for disadvantages.

How do I apply for compensation for disadvantages?

  1. Please contact your examiners and describe the situation.
  2. Agree on a form of examination with your examiners.
  3. Submit an application to your examination board via your respective examination office, in which you ask for compensation for disadvantages in the form of a change in the examination form on which you have agreed upon with your examiners beforehand. In this application, you must explain and proof why you want / have to choose a different form of examination (For example, your doctor advises you to not take part in any in-person exam due to the threat of an infection to your health.). Any supporting documents must be submitted.
  4. The respective examination board of your study course will decide on your application and you will get notified about the decision.

Changes to exam regulations

Repetition of examinations scheduled for winter term 2019/2020

What is it about?

Exams from the previous semester which could not be taken due to COVID-19 can also be completed outside the regular examination period during the summer term 2020.

How does it work?

  • The appointments will be announced by the examiners so that you can register.
  • You can cancel your registration up to one day before the exam date, otherwise you have to take the exam, but you can annul it as described above.
  • If for organisational reasons, it should not be possible to register in advance, please simply attend the exam and register there by attending directly.

What should I be aware of?

  • Inform yourself beforehand thoroughly on the modalities to register at your respective examination office and/or at your examiner.
  • Participation in the exam is subject to the reservation that admission to the exam is confirmed by the examination office; i.e. if the admission requirements are not met, the exam is not assessed/considered.

Exclusion from participation in courses, final examinations and from the submission of the final thesis

  • You may be excluded from courses, final examinations and from the submission of the final thesis, if you have show symptoms of COVID-19 or other symptoms of cold.
  • If you have such symptoms and want to participate in courses, final exams or submit your final thesis, please check with your doctor to make sure it is not COVID-19 and let your doctor certify this (written statement). You will need to present this statement to the responsible persons in order to be admitted.
  • If you are excluded, you must inform the examination office by email or letter.
  • You must not suffer any disadvantages (except for the time lost for the exam you did not take).

Time extention for working on scientific theses

What is it about?

  • If you have not yet received an automatic extension of your deadline for your thesis by two months due to the measures by COVID-19, you can still apply to have it extended by two months.
  • If you have already received two months of additional time due to COVID-19, you cannot apply for a two-month extension again.
  • The two months due to COVID-19 are in addition to the regular possibility to extend your working/writing time by a maximum of two months (in exceptional cases even longer), if for example machines are broken. All in all, an extension of up to four months is therefore possible by application.

How does the application procedure work?

Information for new students with guest account

Regular matriculation / enrolment (Information for new students with guest account)

What does it mean?

That way you will get a student status at the TU Ilmenau, what is especially important to be able to take part in exams. You are then an official student at TU Ilmenau. In addition, the status officially allows you to participate in the online lectures.

Advantages of enrolment

  • You have all the rights and duties of a regular student:
    • Exams and other academic achievements can be taken.
    • You can join the students' health insurance. However, you only have to pay for it from the date of enrolment at TU Ilmenau.
    • You can officially use the services of the Studierendenwerk Thüringen (among others housing, social services, legal advice, social loans), StuRa or international student services.
    • You will receive the semester ticket for the train upon arrival in Ilmenau.
    • You have access to the entire range of courses at TU Ilmenau.
    • An entry into Germany, which requires the student status, is possible (e.g. to continue your studies).
    • You get a temporary residence permit for study purposes when you come to Ilmenau.

This also means:

  •  You have to pay the semester fee of 134,88 Euro + the fee for your student ID (Thoska+-card) of 15 Euro for the summer term 2020.
  •  You have to pay the health insurance from the date of enrolment at TU Ilmenau.
  • Your studies start in the summer term 2020, but you can apply for non-recognition of the term as described above

Can I enroll from abroad, if I cannot enter Germany?

Yes. That is possible. However, the student ID card (Thoska) can and will only be issued in Ilmenau.

What is the procedure for enrolment from abroad?

  1. You have received a letter from the ASC explaining the various options (regular matriculation or guest auditor).
  2. Write to a German public health insurance of your choice and ask for a statement that you are not required to pay insurance ("due to distance learning" - "Fernstudierende").
  3. As soon as you have the statement from the German public health insurance, send it to the ASC.
  4. As soon as you receive the payment request from the ASC, you will have to transfer the semester fee for the summer term 2020, currently 134,88 Euro.
  5. After receipt of the semester fee, the ASC will complete the enrolment process and from then on you are a regular student at TU Ilmenau.

What do I have to consider when I enter Germany?

  • We advise you to contact we4you@tu-ilmenau.de well in advance of your arrival so that we can prepare for your arrival and inform you about current quarantine regulations.
  •  As soon as you enter Germany, you will have to register (in-person) with the ASC in order to complete the matriculation process. Then you will receive your student ID card (Thoska+) and can proceed with and complete all formalities in Ilmenau. Delays caused by you can have negative effects on your stay in Germany.

Information for new students with guest account

Admission as guest auditor (Admission as guest auditor)

What is that?

The status of a guest auditor allows you to attend lectures and participate as guests. It is not a study in itself. Therefore, this status in the current situation only applies to people who are not yet enrolled at the TU Ilmenau, as they have not yet been able to enter the country to study or prepare for their studies in the summer term 2020. They can apply to be admitted as guest auditors. The application fee is 50 Euros.

Advantages

  • The guest auditor status gives you the right to participate in courses in your admitted program or in the offered preparatory courses.
  • As it is not a student status, it does not count as a period of study (for example for the 10-year period or other periods in connection with the study)
  • You are therefore not obliged to have a German health insurance and pay the insurance fees.

Disadvantages

  • It is not suitable for enrolled students or students who plan to come to Ilmenau in the summer term 2020.
  • You have to pay 50 Euros.
  • A possible stay does not count as study in the sense of a study visa.
  • You have no student status at the TU Ilmenau and therefore no student rights, e.g.:
    • There is no possibility to take exams or study achievements.
    • You have no right to take additional courses outside of your study program.
    • You have no semester ticket for the train.
    • It is not possible to join the students' health insurance.
    • An entry to Germany with the purpose of study is only possible in special cases. Please inform yourself in advance at the embassy and the federal police (Bundespolizei). If you need support here, you can contact us via we4you@tu-ilmenau.de. However, a first entry for the winter term 2020/2021 for regular enrolment should be possible depending on the COVID19 regulations.
    • You will not be able to receive a temporary residence permit for study purposes when you come to Ilmenau.
  • You have no official right of being supported by the Studierendenwerk Thüringen (including housing, social services, legal advice, social loans), StuRa or the international student services.
  • You have no right to receive BAföG-subsidies.
  • It is very likely that there will be problems with scholarships. Please contact your scholarship provider before making a decision.

How do I apply for staying guest auditor?

  1. Consider whether you would like to take advantage of this opportunity and think of advantages and disadvantages.
  2. Download the corresponding form, fill it out and file a request to the ASC.
  3. As soon as you receive the payment request from the ASC, transfer the 50 euro fee to the account indicated on the website
