PROMOS-Funding Programme

Programme to increase the mobility of students at German universities

The TU Ilmenau awards scholarships for study-related stays abroad by students. Funding is provided by the PROMOS programme of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

The scholarships are awarded in a quality-oriented and performance-related selection procedure.

Scholarships can be applied for for the following funding measures:

The target group can apply for regular enrolment:
Applications are open to students enrolled on a regular basis (in Bachelor's, Master's, Diplom, Magister, Staatsexamen degree programmes, etc.) at German universities,

a.) who are German nationals
b.) the Germans are on an equal footing pursuant to Section 8 (1) (2) et seq., (2), (2a) and (3) BAföG (in this context, the wording of the Act applies, which can be found at: www.das-neue-bafoeg.de [only available in German]).
c.) as well as non-German students and university graduates if they are enrolled in a course of study at a German higher education institution with the aim of obtaining a degree at a German higher education institution or a doctorate at a German higher education institution.

For the group of persons described in b.) and c.), stays in the home country are excluded.

Deadlines for Applications:

January 15, 2021 and June 15, 2021

You can apply for a scholarship for a stay abroad in 2021.

An extension of the scholarship beyond 6 months is not possible.

(1 to 6 months)

Study Visits

Study stays at foreign universities can be funded with a duration of at least one month to six months with monthly partial scholarship instalments and/or flat-rate travel allowances.
Doctoral students cannot be funded under this programme.
Support for study visits for the purpose of studying in the Erasmus+ region is only possible in exceptional cases.
Study visits can also be funded for the preparation of theses (also in companies) and student research projects (project work).
Tuition fees cannot be paid.

(6 weeks to 6 months)

Internships

Internships lasting at least six weeks to six months can be funded worldwide with monthly partial scholarship instalments and/or flat-rate travel allowances.  Support for internships in the Erasmus+ region is only possible in exceptional cases.
 For all internships, the employer must provide a confirmation of acceptance.

(3 weeks to 6 months)

Language Courses

Stays for language courses can be funded with a duration of at least three weeks to six months with monthly partial scholarship instalments and/or travel allowances and/or a one-off flat-rate course fee worldwide. Courses at state and private universities abroad are eligible for funding. In principle, only language courses with at least 25 hours per week can be funded.
Basic knowledge of the foreign language is required.
Language courses in Russian, Spanish, Portuguese and Chinese are preferred.

(up to 6 weeks)

Stays for specialist courses lasting up to six weeks can be funded worldwide with monthly partial scholarship installments and/or flat-rate travel allowances and/or a one-off flat-rate course fee. Specialist courses are, for example, summer courses/schools or workshops at foreign universities; lecture and congress trips cannot be sponsored.
There are funding opportunities for doctoral students in the DAAD congress and lecture travel programme [only available in German].

(up to 12 days)

Study Trips

University teachers, academic staff and senior administrative staff are eligible to apply.

Study trips can be funded with a duration of up to twelve days. In addition to imparting subject-related knowledge and gaining an insight into the host country, the focus must be on meeting students and scientists. Travel with a predominantly tourist programme cannot be funded.

Competition Trips

University teachers, academic staff and student initiatives and associations are eligible to apply.

Travel lasting up to twelve days to participate in international student competitions abroad, e.g. programming world championships or EU simulation events, can be sponsored.
