IMN-Kolloquium: "Dry Synthesis of Nanoparticles and Modelling ofAggregated Nanoparticle Films"

Am Mittwoch, dem 29.05.2019, um 13.00 Uhr spricht Prof. Dr. habil. Lutz Mädler vom Leibniz Institute for Materials Engineering – IWT Bremen, Faculty of Production Engineering, University of Bremen, im Rahmen des Kolloquiums des Instituts für Mikro- und Nanotechnologien MacroNano® der TU Ilmenau zum Thema "Dry Synthesis of Nanoparticles and Modelling of Aggregated Nanoparticle Films". Die Veranstaltung findet im Feynmanbau, Gustav-Kirchhoff-Straße 7, Raum 114/115, statt.

Zum Vortrag:
A fabrication process of highly porous nanoparticle layers using dry high temperature aerosoltechniques (e.g. spray flames) on temperature sensitive substrates will be presented. The porous layersare transferred on various substrates with a two roll laminator that can be up scaled to a roll-to-rollprocess. The structure and mechanical properties of such aggregated nanoparticle films are importantparameters for many different applications. The high porosity of these films allows fluid molecules toaccess the high specific surface area of the nanoparticles in applications including catalysis. Percolationpaths enable the transport of charges which is an important aspect in gas sensor design. For these filmsthe mechanical stability against environmental stresses is important for many applications. In an earlierstudy, we could enhance the film stability by mechanical compaction. Using the Colloidal ProbeTechnique, we demonstrated an increase in the films Young's Modulus at increased compactionpressures. The design of stable nanoparticle films with tailored structural properties, such as porosity,pore size distribution and percolation threshold, however, depends on the understanding of therearrangement of such films.
