The focus of our research interest is the transfer of biological information processing and information storage into nanoelectronic memristive devices and systems. For this purpose, neurobiological mechanisms of information acquisition, processing, and storage are reconstructed in a way that they can be emulated with micro- and nanoelectronic systems. This opens up manifold possibilities in the field of neuromorphic circuit technology and in the field of system technology. The aim is to path the way for a paradigm shift in information technology. Examples of applications are self-adapting systems with a parallel architecture and extremely low energy dissipation, circuit architectures for visual pattern recognition, real-time auditory signal processing, autonomous robots, intelligent machines, and green IT.
