    Spintronics as a rapidly thriving branch of nanoelectronics deals with the intrinsic angular momentum of electrons - their electron spin (in short spin) – that can give rise to a variety of novel and fascinating phenomena. We all already unknowingly use the results of this subfield of modern physics with the latest generation of memories installed in our laptops and mobile phones. Indeed, today's density of data would be impossible to handle without the giant magnetoresistance discovered by Peter Grünberg (awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2007) - a phenomenon based on a collective dynamic of electron spins.

    "Three orders of magnitude create a new science" - this is how particle physicist Murray Gell-Mann, the discoverer of quarks, describes what awaits researchers on their journey into the world of the very smallest. And the world of the very smallest, for nanoscientists, is the realm of molecules and atoms. Their size is a fraction of a nanometer - the atomic lattice distance of car-bon is 0.246 nm. This corresponds to the 1/300 000 of a hair diameter. In the field of nanotech-nologies, it is preparing to produce semiconductor structures with almost atomic dimensions on wafers hundreds of millimeters in diameter. This naturally requires measuring instruments of the highest precision.

    A strong heterogeneity of school students and inclusive learning settings place growing demands on the professional profile of teachers. In many teacher training courses, intensive preparation for these challenges is currently still a neglected activity. Rather, the principle of "learning by doing" seems to be common practice. As early as 2000, Mandl and Gerstenmaier pointed out a significant "gap between knowledge and action" in university education (Gerstenmaier & Mandl 2000, p. 1). In addition, Hof (2000) were able to show that teachers at the beginning of their careers tend to use intuitive knowledge and subjective theories as a basis for action rather than evidence-based and theoretically sound knowledge.
