NeuroSensEar Consortium Meeting Spring 2026

A special guest this spring was Bastian Epp from the Technical University of Denmark, who attended the workshop as a representative of the NeuroSensEar Advisory Board and contributed valuable insights from the field of hearing research.

Alongside scientific presentations, the focus was on interactive workshops aimed at planning joint publications and further developing the system. Discussions covered both short-term collaborations and long-term visions for a holistic neuromorphic hearing system.

There was also plenty of opportunity for personal interaction: a tour of the new research facilities of Alexander Raake’s research group, joint dinners and a short city tour of Aachen provided the chance for in-depth discussions and new ideas.

The workshop also provided the opportunity to welcome two new members to the NeuroSensEar team:

  • Astrid Kumkar (University of Kiel), who is working on modelling auditory perception in insects, and
  • Lilly Paulick (Ilmenau University of Technology / RWTH Aachen University), who specialises in models of human hearing, particularly in the context of hearing loss and its treatment.

Highlights of the scientific programme included keynote speeches by:
• Peter Jax
• Rainer Waser
• Janina Fels

Special thanks goes to Prof. Rainer Waser, who, in his lecture on neuromorphic computing, not only outlined the use of AI in this field of research, but also took the opportunity to offer some brief advice on a scientific career and on life!
