Internet : thoska+ on your own PC

Motivation

Especially during the semester break or during an internship, it can be useful to use thoska+ to perform the functions of the online student and examination administration on your own PC.

The current thoska+ student ID cards issued at the TU Ilmenau are .NET v2+ Smart Cards from the company Gemalto.

The connection to the server of the online student and exam administration requires a valid electronic certificate on your thoska+ for client authentication. Without a valid certificate, the server rejects your request with a connection error.

An electronic certificate personalized in your name and limited to 3 years can be obtained by presenting your identity card and your thoska+ at the University Computer Center.

You can reach the online student and examination administration via the Internet at the following URL https://os.tu-ilmenau.de, where you should enter your PIN.

Software and Configuration : Windows

Driver Card Reader

The Smart Card Reader must be PC/SC compatible and installed with the appropriate driver. Under the Windows operating system, the driver is installed automatically the first time the reader is inserted.

Driver Card : Internet Explorer and Chrome

Another driver, IDGo 800 Minidriver , controls the function of the card.

Install the minidriver according to the instructions.

Please note the order of installation:

  1. Driver for the card reader
  2. IDGo 800 Minidriver for the card

This completes the installation for use with IE and Chrome. Please restart your computer.

If everything is configured correctly and the card is inserted, you can view the electronic certificate stored on your thoska+ via Start >> System Control >> Internet Options >> Contents >> Certificates.

Driver Card : Firefox

With Firefox, the function of the card is not controlled by a minidriver but by PKCS#11. An additional installation package is available for this purpose.

Install the package according to the instructions.

Configure a new cryptography module in your Firefox under Extras >> Einstellungen >> Erweitert >> Zertifikate >> Kryptographie-Module >> Laden
(bzw. Extras >> Einstellungen >> Datenschutz & Sicherheit >> Sicherheit >> Kryptographie-Module >> Laden)

  • Module name: Thoska

  • Module file name 32 bit Version:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Gemalto\IDGo 800 PKCS#11\IDPrimePKCS11.dll

  • Module file name 64 bit Version:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Gemalto\IDGo 800 PKCS#11\IDPrimePKCS1164.dll

If everything is configured correctly and the PIN of your thoska+ (master password) has been entered, you can view the electronic certificate stored on your card in Firefox under Extras >> Einstellungen >> Erweitert >> Zertifikate >> Zertifikate.
