The study of media technology imparts the technical and methodical skills for the development of digital media systems. In order to be able to actively shape progress in the knowledge society today, but also in the future, our graduates need solid knowledge of electrical engineering and information technology as well as computer science, but also interdisciplinary knowledge of media and economic sciences.

The Media Technology programme focuses on audio and video technology, signal processing and software development for digital media and media production technologies. This broad knowledge combined with a comprehensive media practical training enables our students to:

- Development of media technology, media systems and media production processes

- The ability to make decisions and act with regard to the development and application of media products and media technologies,

- a holistic approach to integrating the media into the social and economic environment.

A successful course of study leads to the professional qualification "Bachelor of Science". It qualifies for the subsequent Master's degree course.

Start of studies

Every beginning is difficult. In order to make the transition from school to university a success, the first two semesters of the course of studies are based on a special programme:

- a Raspberry Pi practice project

- the systematic training of study-relevant competences

- Coaching in the basic scientific subjects during the course of studies.

The aim of the coaching is to close knowledge deficits in schools and to deepen new contents during the event. In the Raspberry Pi Seminar, students work very closely with the professional profile of the media technologist. In small project teams they develop their own media product, experience the relevance of basic subjects such as electrical engineering or computer science and train skills such as self-organisation and problem-solving ability in practical application.

Students from previous years have implemented the following projects, for example:

Practice during studies

There is no mandatory basic internship necessary. The specialist internship in the 6th semester lasts 20 weeks and can be completed in companies in Germany and abroad.

Fields of work

  • Research and development departments in media technology companies
  • Application-oriented industries (e.g. automotive industry, publishing, etc.)
  • Design, development and integration of media systems
  • Audiovisual media
  • Application of VR/AR technologies
  • Production management for hardware and software developments
  • Creation and support of data services
  • Media technology consulting in all economic sectors and public institutions
