Brief description

German engineering enjoys a good reputation worldwide. From cars to machines to electrical appliances: the manufacturing industry is one of the most important sectors of our country's economy. Industrial engineers are largely responsible for the development of these products. They have both technical and business knowledge and take into account not only quality and functionality, but also the manufacturing costs and sales opportunities of goods. In companies, they act as an important interface between the various departments. They communicate, coordinate and manage processes in coordination with specialists and managers from the technical and commercial areas.

In the industrial engineering degree program, you will be trained equally in engineering and in economics. In the engineering part, you will learn the basics of technical mechanics, computer science or manufacturing technology. In the course of your studies, you can specialize in either mechanical or electrical engineering. Among other things, you will learn how a car chassis is constructed or how electric motors work. In economics and law, you will be trained primarily in business administration. You will learn how a company is managed and how products are marketed. You also have the opportunity to take a closer look at innovation or project management.

With your interface competence, you are in great demand on the job market and can be deployed in a variety of ways. Whether in the development of new technologies, in management consulting or in product management - as an industrial engineer you have many options!

Application with foreign certificates

I am studying industrial engineering and management because it gives me a broad education in both business and engineering subjects.

Why Ilmenau?

With your know-how in business administration and engineering, you are at home in two disciplines. During your studies, you will develop an understanding of technical and economic interrelationships. You will apply your theoretical knowledge from the lectures and seminars in practice: and complete two internships at companies of your choice - abroad if you wish. As a student, you will be involved in research projects and establish contacts with well-known industrial companies. For example, you can also write your Bachelor's thesis in cooperation with a company.

If you want to gain experience abroad, you can complete your bachelor's degree as a double degree program and spend part of your studies in China to gain knowledge about the Chinese market.

The high quality of the industrial engineering program at TU Ilmenau is not only reflected in the good reputation that Ilmenau industrial engineers enjoy in practice, but also in the good results that this program achieves in various rankings.
