Studienstart – flexibel

In addition to subject-specific supplementary courses (e.g. mathematics, physics, chemistry, presentation theory), in which the current subject content is dealt with in a repetitive and supplementary manner, additional key qualification courses are added in the four semesters.

The key qualifications include further competence checks and feedback discussions in the first and fourth semesters, learning management, self-organisation, time management, methods of studying and scientific work as well as problem-solving techniques. To name just a few of all the key qualifications.

Yes, even first-year students who have a foreign higher education qualification do not always have the same level of knowledge as German high school graduates.

By extending the introductory phase of your studies to four semesters instead of two, you will have more time to build up and expand your programme-relevant skills, compensate for subject-related deficits, increase your own ability to study and thus improve your motivation to study. The primary goal of "Studienstart - flexible" at the TU Ilmenau is,

•     to support you with additional courses, workshops and tutorials,
•     to support you individually,
•     to optimise your personal learning behaviour
•     and in this way improve your academic success.

Each semester, you will complete about 50% of the planned credit points per semester from the regular study programme and acquire the remaining credit points through supplementary modules (additional offers). These supplementary modules are not part of the respective study regulations and help you to achieve your study goals.

Successful participation in "Studienstart - flexibel" extends your standard period of study by two semesters (incl. an extension of the applicable examination deadlines, free attempts and grade improvement attempts) and the applicable rules for receiving BAföG during the standard period of study are applied.
