Description

Electricity is the engine of progress in our modern society. Whether from the power socket or in mobile phone batteries - electricity accompanies us constantly. Electrical engineering and information technology is not only concerned with the generation, transmission and use of electricity. It is also about the production of components, sensors and circuits, which are used, among other things, for the acquisition, processing and transmission of information and are therefore at the centre of information technology.

In the course of studies, on the one hand, the generation of electrical energy in power plants, the transport of electricity in cables and overhead lines and the use of electrical current in electrical machines and systems are considered, and on the other hand, the realization of components and sensors and the design of electronic circuits are learned. In the field of information technology, techniques are dealt with which deal with the acquisition, representation, transmission and processing of information - fields of application are communication technology, measurement technology, multimedia technology and automation technology.

Content of study

Specialisations

I study electrical engineering and information technology at TU Ilmenau because, to me, very excellent teaching is characterised especially by close supervision. The campus family is not just a slogan here, but lived reality.

Practice during studies

The basic internshipis a course of study with a total duration of six weeks. It should preferably be completed before the course of study, but can be completed by the end of the 6th semester before admission to the final thesis.

Fields of work

  • Electricity generation, conversion, storage and distribution
  • Renewable Energies
  • Mobile Communications
  • Audiovisual media
  • information and communication technology
  • Microelectronics and nanotechnology
  • (resource-saving) automation technology

My studies. My Story: Electrical Engineering at the TU Ilmenau

Through Ilmenau with Janine and Marcel

Janine and Marcel take you on an exciting tour of the campus of the TU Ilmenau and through Ilmenau itself. They describe how they live and study in Ilmenau, give numerous leisure tips and insights into the place of study of the TU Ilmenau and take you to hidden places in the city.
