Description

Biotechnical Chemistry is concerned with the chemistry of living nature and its application in biotechnology. The focus is on the discovery, identification, synthesis, metabolism and the mechanism of action of biologically active compounds.

The master's course in Biotechnical Chemistry has a modular structure. The course is divided into a one-year in-depth study phase and a one-year research phase. The first year focuses on in-depth lectures on modern areas of bioinorganic and bioorganic chemistry, which introduce students to the state of the art in research. The teaching content is supplemented by corresponding practical courses, which can also be carried out in the working groups. Furthermore, the basics of microreaction technology, nanotechnology and quantum chemistry are taught. It is expected that applicants already have a very good basic knowledge of chemistry and biotechnology and good knowledge of biochemistry and physics.

Building on this, the Master's degree in Biotechnical Chemistry offers a close integration of teaching and research in the working groups of the Institute of Chemistry and Biotechnology and in those of the classical engineering disciplines.
