Description

Electrical Engineering and Information Technology is a branch of engineering that deals with the application of electricity theory in practice. Basically, a distinction can be made between an energy-oriented, physical-constructive-material-oriented and an information-oriented orientation. The first type of orientation deals on the one hand with the generation of electrical energy in power plants, with the transport of electricity in cables and overhead lines and with the use of electrical current in electrical machines and systems. A further core topic is the design and realisation of electronic components, circuits and sensors for the control and monitoring of power engineering systems.

The information-oriented orientation deals with techniques that deal with the acquisition, representation, transfer and processing of information. The elementary fields of knowledge are therefore communication and communications engineering, electronic measurement technology, microwave technology, multimedia technology and automation engineering.

The physical-constructive-material-oriented orientation sees itself on the one hand as a link between energy- and information-oriented electrical engineering and on the other hand as an independent orientation in the rapidly developing field of micro- and nanoelectronics and technology. Material selection and material development together with the further development of complex technologies lead to the design, manufacture and characterisation of electronic assemblies and systems.

On the basis of a solid interdisciplinary background knowledge, electrical engineers and information technicians research and develop new principles and procedures in the fields of information and communication technology, micro- and nanoelectronics, electronics technology, biomedical technology, automation and energy technology, which in many ways improve the quality of life of people in a sustainable way. You can find more information about current projects on the website of the course .

The Master of Science in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology is a consecutive degree. As a second university degree, it builds on a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology and other engineering degrees and qualifies students for a professional career in national and international companies.

Content of study

Within the scope of the elective area "Electrical Engineering and Information Technology", various specialisations are offered. The modules of the elective catalogue are partly assigned to these specialisations. Students are free to choose whether and which specialisation they want to take.

Provided that modules amounting to at least 30 LP from a specialisation are taken and the Master's thesis can be thematically assigned to the specialisation, the specialisation can be shown on the certificate of study if desired.
